From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shilavo (Somali Shiilabo) is one of the 47 woredas in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Korahe Zone, its boundaries shown by official sources vary. On the OCHA map for the Somali Region (copyright 2003), Shilavo is bordered on the south by the Gode Zone, on the southwest by Debeweyin, on the north by Kebri Dar, and on the east by the Werder Zone.[1] However on the map of the Ethiopian Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency (coyright 2006), Shilavo extends east to the national border with Somalia separating the Gode Zone from Werder.[2]
The major settlement in Shilavo is Shilavo. This woreda is primarily inhabited by the Darod clan of the Somali people.
Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 54,177, of whom 24,735 were males and 29,442 were females; 7,239 or 13.36% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 18.2%. Information is not available on the area of Shilavo, so its density cannot be calculated.[3]
