Short track speed skating at the 2006 Winter Olympics

Short track speed skating at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games included four men's disciplines and four women's disciplines. They were held at the Torino Palavela. In the men's competition, Ahn Hyun-Soo earned a medal in each event, winning three golds. On the women's side, Jin Sun-Yu scored three gold medals.

The men's 1500 metre race was held on February 12, 2006. South Korea's first medal of the games was won in the race by Ahn Hyun Soo^[1][2].

Note: Fu Tianyu was disqualified in Final A and is thus unranked. Sarah Lindsay qualified for the semi-final after a disqualification but finished fifth in her heat.

On February 16, Canada filed a protest with the Court of Arbitration for Sport over the results of the Final A, but it was dismissed. Evgenia Radanova of Bulgaria, who won the silver, crossed the finish line with part of one of her skates in the air, which is against the rules.[1] The International Olympic Committee does not change results after they have been finalized based on video replay, but the International Skating Union does. For example, they disqualified Fu Tianyu from the A Final for cross-tracking (improperly crossing the course or interfering with another skater)[2]. On February 17 the CAS dismissed the appeal, with a written ruling expected on February 18. Regardless, the CAS has no power to overturn an Olympic result, just to make recommendations to the IOC.[3]

Note: Byun Chun-sa of South Korea and Tatiana Borodulina of Russia were disqualified in Final A, and are thus unranked. Byun Chun Sa came in third place but was disqualified for impeding thus denying South Korea of a clean sweep.^[4]

The Women's 3000m Relay Final was held on February 22. With this win, Korea defended their title in this event for the fourth time running.
