Simon Cox (born 28 April 1987[1] in Reading, England) is a footballer currently playing for Reading. He can play either as a midfielder or a striker.[1]
Born in the Reading suburb of Tilehurst,[2] he attended Downsway Primary School ( http://www.westberks.org/GroupHomepage.asp?GroupId=2510)[citation needed] and later went to Denefield School.[citation needed] Cox joined his home town club at the age of nine,[1] and made his first team debut on 20 September 2005 in Reading's League Cup victory away to Luton Town,[1] after which he signed a professional contract with Reading on 18 November 2005.[2]
On 11 September 2006, Cox went on loan to Brentford.[3] There he made five appearances (including four in League One) before the loan was cut short due to a broken leg suffered against Millwall on 26 September 2006.[4] Cox recommenced his loan with Brentford on 22 November 2006 following the recovery from his broken leg,[5] with the loan finishing on 8 January 2007.[5] On 22 March 2007 he commenced a third loan period of the season, this time to join fellow Reading loanee Alex Pearce at Northampton Town for a month.[6]
