[edit] Footbridge
The article "Footbridge" redirects here. This is not appropriate because (in British English at least) the term footbridge can refer to any walkway which is not suitable for vehicles (e.g. over a river).--NicholasJones 17:18, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- Same in the U.S. --SPUI (talk) 20:33, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- I've now removed that redirect. Loganberry | Talk 01:19, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I've now also deleted the reference in the skyway definition that list footbridge as a synonym for skyway. Footbridge has its own article and is a far broader category that skyway. Even in urban settings, footbridge is much more likely to refer to an open air bridge across a river, highway, or other obstruction. DHimmelspach 01:42, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Separate pages?
Should this article be divided into separate pages? The number of alternate definitions seems to continue to grow ("skyway" is a common name for highway bridges, for instance). If this page should be moved/separated, what would be good names? Also should this article become a disambig page, or should it remain, but with a link to skyway (disambiguation) up at the top? (I'd kinda like it to stay here, but I'm biased since I live in Minneapolis ;-) —User:Mulad (talk) 07:07, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)
- 2 separate pages are a possibility. in any case as it stands i think the article title should be skywalk which is the predominant usage of the term as discussed here. Covalent 04:32, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 9/11 paragraph
Is it necessary or appropriate to have the 9/11 paragraph included? Many things were destroyed, and unless this is to be a 9/11 damage encyclopedia I believe it should be removed.
- I agree totally and removed it. This might be appropriate in an article about skyways in New York City, but not here. It does nothing to further anyone's understanding of what a skyway is and does. DHimmelspach 01:57, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Suggestion: Include something about Grand Canyon Skywalk currently under construction.
[edit] Map image Image:Mpls skyways.png
The image Image:Mpls skyways.png, which is linked inline from this article as a map of Minneapolis under "List of cities with notable skyway/skywalk systems" has been listed for deletion at WP:IFD. The reason is that, though the image is from a US government website, it has a caption indicating that it is the product of a local city, and thus it is potentially copyrighted. Please note that this inline link can be replaced with a link to the source image - http://www.mnd.uscourts.gov/images/mpls_skyways.gif - if desired. Please see WP:IFD if you would like to offer an opinion about the image. Thank you. --BigDT 15:25, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Skyway for prisoners
The Seattle "skyway" that's referenced doesn't have windows, is on the top floor, and connects the King County Courthouse to the Correctional Facility. I'm pretty sure it's used for prisoner transport. New York has something similar; other cities probably do as well. Are these skyways, or something else? Bennetto 03:45, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
