Any body able to incorporate all these images properly in the English language article? They were succesfully included in the French language version. Rack systems The latter has become superfluous as someone has sucessfully integrated that immage, the former, into the English language article. That still leaves the rest. Peter Horn 00:27, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Db1944;s Railway Contributions
Good evening (GMT time); hope your well. My adopted user, Db1944 has come to me requesting some assistance in the matter concerning your addition of a template to all of his railway articles. I just thought I'd let you know that he is actually a little upset that his articles have been branded low importance and starting quality by yourself through one template. I beg to differ - his contributions have been marvellous when compared to the fact these articles didn't even exist on Wikipedia english when he started out.
Don't worry - if I was in your shoes I'd immediately cite what it says at the bottom of the editing screen:
"...if you don't want your work to be mercilessly edited by others, don't submit it..."
However, it is common courtesy to advise the lead editor how he could improve it and at least give them a little time to bump it up the quality scale before branding the article low quality and low importance. I will be editing the templates on the articles as I see fit, and I hope you agree with my edits. (I add this text to every possible dispute I undertake) If you believe I have conducted myself in a uncivil manner, or violated WP:BITE, please let me know at my talk page - all advice is gratefully received!
[edit] William Barstow Strong
Thanks a lot for reporting Strong's date and place of death. This has been a Burning Issue in a Wikipedia List for some time. You might want the pleasure of removing that item from their list (if you can find it! Sorry. I'm too new to point the way!).
While you have your reference out, does it have a record of his marriage? I don't feel comfortable with that rootsweb reference (which may be accurate! You never know). Thanks again.Student7 14:13, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
It strunk me after I wrote it, that it must be a 'bot that maintains those biog missing data lists. Here is the category, though Category:Date of Birth Missing. Can use same for Date of Death. Neither has Strong on it today, so maybe a bot updated it already? Thanks again.Student7 23:15, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

In Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/New York City public transportation articles by quality statistics, is there a reason A is above GA? I thought GA was a higher class than A. --NE2 17:13, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] TWP archiving
I have archived the talk page finally on WP:TWP. However, it seems to have got a litlle out of sync in the archiving. What have i done wrong? Simply south 21:44, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I always archive it from when the statement first gets posted and say its from there which it is, to the end. I suppose this is different with other editors. Simply south 21:58, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] DYK
My sincerest apologies for delay in reponding to your kind and generous inclusion - it is appreciated - editing, coping with an oversized watch list and too many threads - and dealing with my kids holidays - leaves me hoping that my various projects can hold a stretchedout delay or two... I will endevour to locate a few others as well - completed more developed articles I hope and not my pipe dreams... SatuSuro 10:11, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] IP vandal
Dear Mr Lamb,
My IP address was recently flagged as vandalizing the Pullman Strike page and I just wanted to write and explain. My younger sister was visiting me and researching a school project and as a more-than-typically rebellious teenager thought she would be funny... I have done my best to show her *I* will not tolerate that behavior any more than the rest of the world will and I just want to apologize for any trouble caused. 72.88.78.49 23:46, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Just saw you there- thanks for that, I will be trying over the next month or so to work out whether there are any images that I can use for west coast trams and railways that are out of copyright... otherwsie I will be getting a friend to help me make maps of the west coast arts - should make them much more interesting. [edit] Rail Transport in Zambia
Hi -- can you please advise on the best organisation for topics on Railways in Zambia? Currently there's the 'Rail Transport in Zambia' page you created which has the links to Zambia Railways and Tazara, and there's the 'Transport in Zambia' page which has an overview of 'Railways in Zambia', with links to the two railway companies. I'm wondering whether to keep the overview on the transport page and to change the 'Rail transport' page to redirect to it, or vice versa: move the overview to the Rail Transport page and have a link from the Transport page. (And by the way the only aspect missing from the overview is the history of railways in the country, I was thinking of starting a separate History of Railways in Zambia page for the 'by country' category). [edit] Re: Amtrak link
I'm replying to the last two items here because they appeared in the page history as coming from two different IP addresses (as noted above).
The first reason I removed the link was in following WP:NOT and WP:SPAM policies. As such, we need to be careful what links we keep listed on Wikipedia articles.
The limited scope of information available on the proposed link, which states that it can lookup information for only the previous four days, severely decreases the link's value as an information source for an encyclopedia. If we are going to include on-time performance data, we need to include data over a much wider period than four days, and we need to display it in a way that is easily accessible for readers. The proposed link requires the user to request data on a specific train for a specific period. Such data can be easily thrown off by weather events such as the winter storm that passed through the Midwest over the past weekend (which kept me personally shoveling snow for about 12 hours); in such a circumstance, a large percentage of trains in the affected area will be late a greater amount of time than may be normal for the area. Restricting the results to such a short timeframe presents a misleading summary of performance. Slambo (Speak) 16:56, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- However, you may consider adding the link to the Amtrak page at Train.SpottingWorld (which has not yet been created as of this writing). Slambo (Speak) 17:00, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] IC 2500 steam engine site
Hi Slambo. A couple of months ago I told you about how my grandfather led the preservation effort for the IC 2500 steam engine. Back in 1962, he got the IC to donate it to the city of Centralia, and supervised it's move down Broadway about 5 miles to it's permanent location in Fairview Park, Centralia, IL.
I said I'd let you know when I got a website up, and I finally did.
http://www.ageofsteammemorial.org/index.htm
It's the first version, so may be a little rough.
Thanks, Rich Norton

[edit] Amtrak link
Regarding my Amtrak train status link, it now stores upto 3 weeks into the past. The purpose is for a rider to determine the probability of their train being late based on the past few weeks. So when weather has delayed trains for a few days, that becomes very relevant for the rider as their train could also be delayed a lot if the weather is still bad. So this is basically a resource for riders. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.2.142.7 (talk) 22:54, 27 February 2007 (UTC).
- A longer period is helpful, but it's still not what I would think of as encyclopedic. Slambo (Speak) 11:54, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thomas the Tank Engine Merchandising Articles
Please don't groan! If you look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thomas Tomy Wind Ups you will see that a whole raft of articles listing 'Thomas' merchandising have been slated for deletion. WP:THOMAS members have been fretting over this issue for a while, and it seems to have come to a head.
I am inclined to agree that the pages should be deleted, as they are essentially just lists at present, but the people who are editing them are likely to want to continue to do so, and there is some merit to their content, even if they need a lot of work. Hence I have suggested that the appropriate place for these listings might be 'Train Spotting World'. Seeing as how I've just found your name over there too (and quite active!!) it seemed appropriate to see whether you thought it might be an appropriate course of action. If it is, may I ask for your help in copying sufficient articles from one Wiki to the other (as I would only know the long way of doing it!) so that we can complete the tidy-up in WP in a sensible time?
Thoughts? EdJogg 14:36, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Milwaukee Road
The map at Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad suggests a river crossing between Iowa and Wisconsin: there is none, there never has been one. Rather, the map indicates the tracks that sometimes got flooded on either side of the Mississippi; some of this was the old Soo Line. Locally, the line that runs into northern Iowa exits the Mississippi River valley via a very local stream called Bloody Run, reaching its first real town in Monona, Iowa; it's always been a single track line. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ace Telephone (talk • contribs) 06:10, 1 March 2007 (UTC).
[edit] List of computer technology code names
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article List of computer technology code names, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Regarding the message you left recently on my talk page, I'm assuming you're referring to the edits on Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. Please review the article's edit history; several other editors believe your recent edits to fall within the bounds of vandalism on Wikipedia. I am willing to assume good faith that you may be working to improve the article, but so far all I see are content removals and I do not see an earnest effort to add to the history of the organization related in that article. If you disagree with the content in the article, the proper place to discuss the issue is that article's talk page. Since my last contact with you was on February 15, I think your current displeasure is misdirected. Slambo (Speak) 20:26, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This article is maintained by
I see you regularly post this as part of Trains WP job of tagging every possible railway affiliate article. I have a question though, any idea why you tag articles being maintained by one or another project that do not maintain the article you tagged? I have previously posted on the Trains WP page but received no response. Please reply here Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons 18:32, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- I must have missed the question on the project page; sorry about that. Combining the subproject banners into {{TrainsWikiProject}} reduces the number of project banners that are displayed on the talk page while still mentioning all of the WikiProject affiliations for the page. Some of the subprojects (such as WP:TFL and WP:NYPT) have implemented quality categories, so keeping the two banners together further reduces the banner footprint by combining the quality ratings for both projects into one line while still inserting the article into the appropriate categories. When we first added the subproject parameters to the template, we followed the wording on {{WPMILHIST}} as an example. I have no strong preference for the specific words that are used for the subprojects as long as the project name and a link to the project page is included. Perhaps the wording for subprojects should be changed to something like "this article is also within the scope of WikiProject foo"? Slambo (Speak) 18:41, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- My question was more to do with why add the tag that states that an article is maintained by such and such WProject when it isn't. It is true that all WProject banners should have "this article is also within the scope of WikiProject bob Bagwell" instead of arbitrarily stating that an article is maintained by a WP that has not contributed to the said articled in any way whatsoever, I say that, as a member of WP Sheffield, all railway related articles are maintained and regularly updated by WP Sheffield, not WP Trains or WP UK Trains. Well, thank you for sorting out that disaster nearly (it is Transport in Scotland, whuch i've corrected). I am still setting up the assessment page on the project. I am also going to say thanks to Tellyaddict for importing the code.
