[edit] Controversy
The Slumber Party Girls' manager made a comment in late 2006 about the rivalry between The Slumber Party Girls and The Cheetah Girls. She was quoted as saying ""For example, the Cheetah Girls, a Disney brand pop trio, have already released three hit albums and appear in their own line of Disney Channel movies. "We are fighting for the same audience. It's going to be a Britney - Christina thing. You're going to choose one or the other.". This lead to a big "rivalry" rumor about the groups hating each other on online message boards. The Slumber Party Girls then made a comment saying that it was "just a friendly rivalry" and that they didn't "hate The Cheetah Girls". Now that the Slumber Party Girls have announced that they will be making a television movie, and are in the works for a weekly television on Nickelodeon, it appears as though they are rivals with The Cheetah Girls. However, The Slumber Party Girls album has yet to chart on the Billboard Hot 200' while The Cheetah Girls' second movie soundtrack has already reached Platinum. Some even view the rivalry as ridiculous because of the major age gap in the groups. The Cheetah Girls have not commented on the rivalry as of early 2007.
