In 1967, 7-Eleven licensed the frozen carbonated beverage from the ICEE Company, and began selling the product as the Slurpee. 7-Eleven stores, once only found in the United States, are now a worldwide franchise and Slurpees are offered in many, but not all covered countries. Slurpee is a registered trademark of the 7-Eleven Corporation.
7-11 currently sources their FCB equipment from supplier FBD and previously from suppliers IMI Cornelius and the Taylor Company.
The Slurpee machine has a dispenser knob for each flavor at the front of a tumbler or freezer, where a patron pours his or her own Slurpee. Common flavors are frozen Coke and cherry, but new flavors are introduced regularly.
In the summer of 2006 7-Eleven re-designed their cups to appeal more to young adults and teenagers to compete with the rising energy drink market. New signs and translite banners supported the change with lines such as "Mountain Dew Livewire: Shocking, like your report card."
Canadians purchase an average of 30 million drinks per year. Winnipeg, Manitoba was crowned the Slurpee Capital of the world for the sixth time in a row. In Manitoba, 7-eleven stores across the province sell an average of 8,330 slurpee drinks per month. The rest of Canada sells an average of 5,990, which makes Manitobans the world leader of Slurpee Sales.

- Slurpees are sometimes referred to in pop culture references. For example, in The Simpsons television series, Apu sells "Squishees", which have been the basis for many sub-plots. "Weird Al" Yankovic also mentions Slurpees on his song "You Make Me", from his 1988 album "Even Worse".
- 7-Eleven once had a Pineapple flavored Slurpee to tie in with "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie."
- In the Veggietales video release "Josh and the Big Wall", the Jericho pea soldiers throw blue raspberry Slurpees in cups, through hoses and through a cement mixer on the marching Israelites from the walltops.
- The product is referred to by a character Mooj in the movie The 40 Year Old Virgin.
- In November, 2006 A Special Edition "Strawberrwii Banana" Slurpee was sold at participating stores with a contest to win a Wii console [1]
- In the South Park episode "Red Mans Greed" Randy Marsh and a native american about to level south park with the ground to make way for a highway discuss why they have to destroy south park. The native american say's its because of profits. Randy Marsh say's that there's more to life than profits. Slurpees are mostly water ice and are heavily infused with air; there is less food energy in a Slurpee than in the same volume of a soda of the same name.
They are also generally considered kosher "parve", as well as halal. The Diet Pepsi flavor uses sodium caseinate as an anti-freezing agent (sugar is a natural anti-freeze in other flavors) which only gives it the status of kosher dairy. The Piña Colada flavor, however, is not kosher.
