[edit] Ty Lee
Does Ty Lee's simple "I think he's cute" comment really constitute a "relationship" between these two characters? I really think not. Prototime 00:43, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'd wager not, at the moment it's pure speculation. Most likely the comment was thrown in to give Ty Lee's character more depth than just a scarily cheerful martial artist. Eban
I've gone ahead and removed the "Ty Lee" section. If we're going to include that, we might as well include his relationship with Aunt Wu. It probably was added in the first place because of shipping. Prototime 23:27, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Folks, I'm getting tired of reverting the page over this. As I have said, Ty Lee has just as much of a "relationship" with Sokka as does Aunt Wu (probably even less of one); her single comment about him being "cute" does not constitute a relationship between these two characters and is simply not notable (see Notability (fiction), Fancruft). It's great that Ty Lee/Sokka is a couple that some fans like to think as a possibility, but the series has not made anything even close to resembling that seriously happening, meaning that it is purely speculation and something that belongs only in fan webpages, not in an encyclopedia. In other words, unless published by a reputable source, theories, assumptions, opinions, and most notably unwarranted shipping are not to be included in Wikipedia (see Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:Citing sources, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:Original research, and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not). On the grounds of Wikipedia policy, please keep the purely-speculative relationship between Sokka and Ty Lee off of this page. Thank you. Prototime 17:12, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Okay people, there might not be any evidence of Saka liking Ty but she deffinately likes him. So leave her out of this! Besides, when there's an episode when they fall for eachother, you'll be sorry!!!
Yes, we'll be sorry. Sorry that Nick put a relationship into this show that is official. You shippers suffer from delusions and really need to consider how to sell a show. You can sell a show by putting in ambiguous relationships. So as long as Sokka remains a pimp and as long as Kataang or Zutara or whatever isn't canonical, you'll sell the shows. However, if you turn this show into a soap opera, the show will lose it's watchers. So no matter what argument you give, this encyclopedia will NOT include shipping as a point of information on the point that it is not canonical and, even if I am wrong later on, it will/should not happen. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 00:08, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Right, because a teenage girl saying a boy is cute, that's clearly a sign she's madly in love... Listen, shipping is speculation, not fact. An encyclopedia is a collection of facts. If, at some time, a relationship between Sokka and Ty Lee becomes fact, then it goes it. Not before.--Fyre2387 (talk • contribs) 02:59, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, Fyre2387, it looks like that time has come. She's been added, and won't be deleted. DarknessLord 20:56, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, because I still want it deleted...wait, no, I don't. I actually improved the wording. Go try to start edit wars somewhere else. --Fyre2387 (talk • contribs) 00:00, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
You people still don't get it. We are more than willing to add Ty Lee information now because we have two instances of her acting flirtingly towards Sokka. So now it's canonical. When all we had was the "kind of cute" thing, we didn't know if it would actually lead to anything. A single side comment means nothing, thus the reason she was not important enough to add in. H2P (Yell at me for what I've done) 05:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
You know, it makes me sad to put this comment up here. It's nice seeing a topic on shipping that's been dead for a month. Oh well, time to break the peace...
[edit] Toph
Okay, people keep on coming on and saying Toph has romantic feelings for Sokka. The last person to do it basically just added her onto the list of girls (Yue, Suki, and Ty Lee) who have expressed romantic interest in him. Look, we all get that Sokka is a pimp, but please stop adding Toph to his list of girls. Seriously, the only time anything romantic between them happened, it was a comedy scene, and Sokka wasn't really even there. Nothing has happened since. You can make a case for the other three girls-Ty Lee has expressed some degree of interest in Sokka twice despite them being enemies, while Sokka has friggin' made out with the other two. You can't compare that with Toph's situation, as the two have been traveling together as companions for a good couple months by now and nothing has happened outside of ONE incident. There should definitely be a relationship section between the two on both their pages, as they've certainly interacted enough for that, but please try not to make too much out of too little. The season finale aired last night. Sokka confirmed his pimpitude. Toph was draped over Sokka while they and Aang were flying back to Ba Sing Se on Appa. It was only a few seconds of screen time, though, and not alluded to otherwise. But I think it strengthened the case for a Toph-Sokka oneship (one-way relationship.) And, we had some more flirting from Ty Lee. Gothic Chevalier 22:55, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
I've been reverting edits saying that all day now. Toph has stated, quite plainly, that she hates flying. They no longer have a saddle, which means that she doesn't even have a surface designed for sitting, and they were in a rush to get to Ba Sing Se. She's just holding on. Even if there is an attraction (And I'm not saying that there isn't, I still remember her giving Suki that big smooch on the cheek) this doesn't support it. JBK405 23:03, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
JBK405, thanks. It seems that I got my signals wrong in that case. This is why I brught it up before changing the main page, because I might be wrong. I still believe that Sokka is a pimp, though. I don't think I am wrong on that one. Gothic Chevalier 19:58, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
1. Ugh, there's a huge bias on these Avatar pages of reading OUT romance that was clearly intended to be there. Is this all some kind of reaction to the shippers? Look, I agree shippers are rarely objective. I agree they're frequently delusional. And I am not a shipper, but I happen to have read Toph's behavior on Appa in the season finale on two levels. I read it as, yes, there's no saddle and she hates flying. However, the facial expressions and body language of both Toph and Sokka told me that Toph did it the way she did it becuase of her crush on him, and that Sokka was as oblivious as Toph was happy. Is this an interpretation? Yes. Do I think it's the correct interpretation? Yes. Am I a shipper? No. I'm interested in hermeneutics.
2. People, Avatar is FICTION. If this was real life the evidence could be considered ambiguous, but in shows, especially cartoons with a high level of control over facial expressions (etc.), each component has a purpose.
Anyway, I'm not going to bother editing the page to talk about Toph clinging to Sokka's arm, but, goodness, you anti-shippers are as biased as the shippers. Not exactly what I'd call NPOV.Jaguarundi 17:26, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
The problem with that right there is, and I quote, "Is this an interpretation? Yes." It doesn't matter how right you are, you might be dead on, but the Wikipedia policy is only verifiable information; and your own personal interpretation does not count. If it did, I'd have already put in God-knows-how-many edits about my own thoughts on the show. I happen to think that yes, Toph likes Sokka, and yes, there's a reason she picked Sokka to hang on to and not Aang, but our own thoughts don't count. JBK405 00:05, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
OK, that makes sense. Interpretations, however likely, don't belong. Gotcha. Jaguarundi 04:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
umm, yeah, I was mad one day and called sokka a skunk-ferret! So... thats very unenclopedic... sorry! But when it comes to toph--nevermind doing it again... Glad to see you deleted it! Anyways! Sorry! Bye! =) Not a sponge
[edit] Sokka's age
Why is this even in dispute? It has never been stated anywhere that Sokka is even possibly 16 in season 2, and we need to stick with what we know. The only reason that it states "16 (possibly 17 by Season 2)" for Zuko is because of reasons unique to him, and was discussed in length on his talk page. There is not even a hint that the other characters have aged in Season 2, and we need to stick with what we know for this and all character articles. Until something contradicts what has already been established, then what has already been established needs to remain. Prototime 16:55, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Wasn't the comet supposed to return in a year prior to their trip to the Fire Temple? I think that is a canonical source that characters will age, at most, one year between now and the end of the series. Gothic Chevalier 23:12, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Sozin's comet is going to return at the end of summer. When the show began, it was winter. So it's entirely possible that they will not have a birthday before the end of the show (if their birthday is in the fall). Exhibit A 23:19, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
What are you talking about in the episode Bato of the water tribe it states that sokka is 16 years old
Bato says you go Ice Dodging on your 14'th birthday, not 16'th. So, all we know is he's a minimum of 14 years old. JBK405 02:33, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Comic relief
- Does anyone else think that Sokka is the main comic relief in the series? --Madd the sane 18:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Pretty much, yeah.
- He is alot more than JUST comic relief, although he does provide that.
- I have to agree with that but there's always Iroh too.
- I think Sokkka does provide comic relief (Iroh does too, but not as much), but if you think about it, Momo does a lot of comic relief. Half the time I watch the show, I'm laughing at Momo more than the others. Momoroxmysoxoff
- Yeah but sometimes differant people laugh at differant things in the show, it could be Momo, Iroh(I love Iroh), Aang, Sokka, Katara, or anybody. Every character has something funny to add to the show and its not just one exact person, although Sokka and Iroh provide ALOT of it.
- I think that Sokka, Momo, and Iroh are the most humorous in the series.
Though I'm thinking of Momo being the funniest. Examples: 1.) In the episode " The Tales of Ba Sing Se" Momo is being chased by some cats. Then a man grabs Momo, props him up in a costume and has him dance with monkeys. That made me laugh the most! 2.) In the episode " The Desert" ,after drinking cactus juice, Sokka accused Momo of ratting him out to stealing the scrowls from the library. And then Momo cries.
[edit] Relationship with Appa?
Shouldn't there also be a section on Sokka's relationship with Appa. Both Aang's and Toph's page have a section explaining their relationship with Appa. It should be noted that a recurring theme in the series is Appa sneezing/slobbering all over Sokka, much to his dismay.
I don't think so. Unlike other characters (i.e. Toph and Aang) Sokka doesn't have a relationship per se. Besides, the reason Toph and Aang have it on their pages are because of special circumstances. Aang because, well Appa was with him for over 100 years, and Toph because of what happened in "The Chase" and "The Liberary". Momoroxmysoxoff October 1, 2006, 18:01
On the other hand, the audio commentary on the DVD notes the growing relationship between Sokka and Appa. So maybe it should count, since the show creators point it out? Jaguarundi 04:52, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nobility
Just wondering, since Hakoda is the leader of the Southern Water Tribe, does that make Sokka and Katara akin to nobelity? DJ168.212.126.53 15:18, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Hakoda seems to be more of the commanding officer rather than the chief, all we've seen him do so far is command the warriors. I'll grant that he likely commanded the civilians, too, most tribe systems have the warrior chief rule the rest of the tribe, especially since we didn't see any other form of government in the opening episode, but it's not definite yet. [edit] New Picture
can we chang the picture to Image:Tn 023.jpg, it shows his face better and has higher quality Tremewanbill 03:00, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, it's lower quality, it only looks better because it's smaller. If you see it blown up to the same size as the current picture, it looks very bad. -Exhibit A 03:18, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
