Son, Norway

—Son (pronounced with a long "o") is a village in Norway. Son is located at the Oslofjord and right north of Moss and the border to Østfold, and south of Hølen; it belongs to Vestby municipality in Akershus.

In the Renaissance era, Son became famous as a harbour. Timber came from the nearby areas and was partially floated down the river. On many Dutch maps from that time (the oldest one being from 1582), Oslofjord is noted as Zoon Water. However, when this period ended, Son lost its importance.

Starting in the 1900s, Son became known for famous inhabitants, such as poet Herman Wildenvey and painter Karl Dørnberger. Even today it is known as a "town of artists". Siren Sundby, the former sailing champion, is also from Son.

Son did have wood sawe mill ,operated by Ola Løse from one off Breviks farms. he also did run the cinema at <clubben > adjacent to son public beach. his next door farmer{ Brevik} become a politican for Akerhus distrikt;

There was also an boatbuilder and a "Glenne boat yard" MR.Glenne moved on to the other side of Oslofjorden to "Clenne Bay on Nøtterø"near to the tovn "Tønsberg",he continued to make drawings for small boats.

In Son there is an organision ,for preservation off an old sailing yacht,all members have bought shears in the yacht.

More painters is [Rolf Rav] [Scoot Rude] [Xancron @ Laxa] just across Son bay.] Another painer was the headmaser off Son scool.

German invasion of OSLO tok place from Son bay and jetty,after the german flotila suffered the loss of hewy cruser Blucer at the hands of Drøbak Fortress. And had to turn back to landsette trops at Son,helped by a former local German,(Trauthman).

I was a boy abt.11 years old on 09-04-1940 and lived in son at the time, on that day i had a apointment with the scool dentist,and that inwolved traveling by buss to Hølen. There was 3 pupil on the buss and all of oss hade the same apintment. Sitting and vaiting for the driver,the buss was invade by german soilder and officers,they would not alow oss to leav.

Instead they told oss they had come to free oss from the English and the jewish plutocrates,hwatever that meant goodnes knows.

Another german ship also recived damage from the fortress [Prinse Augen}That was in april the 9 1940.

"Glenne Boat yard" has ben developed into a park..

And Son rocks every summer in their own concert in Glenneparken.
