South African Express

South African Express Airways is an airline based in South Africa. Although the airline is operationally independent of South African Airways, its flights are incorporated within the strategic alliance with South African Airlink and South African Airways. South African Express started operations on 24 April 1994.

South African Express operates the following services (September 2006):
- Cape Town to Bloemfontein, East London, Gaborone, Johannesburg, Maputo [starts October 2, 2006], Port Elizabeth, Walvis Bay and Windhoek
- Johannesburg to Bloemfontein, Cape Town, East London, Gaborone, George, Hoedspruit, Kimberley, Lubumbashi (DRC), Nelspruit (Kruger Mpumalanga), Richards Bay, Walvis Bay and Windhoek
- Durban to East London and Port Elizabeth

[edit] South African Express Flight 1601
On 17 August 2006, The South African Express 6 o'clock flight (SA1601) from Johannesburg was scheduled to land at Richards Bay at 07:30, but was diverted to Durban due to a terrorist threat to Richards Bay Airport. Richards Bay airport returned to normal and the aircraft flew to Richards Bay and landed at 08:25.
