[edit] History
St. George's was founded in 1930 by Captain J. F. Danby Hunter. The original campus consisted of a small country house. Over the years, the school has been expanded to two campuses; the Senior School being built on land leased from UBC in 1965 and the Junior School being bought in 1979 from the Convent of the Sacred Heart. The school continues to expand to this day; the Senior School is currently under development.
[edit] School Captain and Vice Captain
Current to 2007, Ronan Sabo-Walsh serves as Captain and Vincent Locsin as Vice Captain.
At the Junior School (Grades 1-7), the head boy is Saahil Siddoo. The assistant head boy is Reginald Wirahardja. The head boy and assistant head boy are named on "Prize Day" at the Junior School, on the last day of school in June.
[edit] Academic performance
The school is ranked highly by the Fraser Institute. The school has a near 100 percent graduation rate and its graduates go on to higher education at universities all over North America, Asia, and Europe.
[edit] Curricular
Many academic subjects, some of which are enriched, are provided at the school. Students follow a prescribed courseload until grade eight, during and after which they are offered elective blocks. Numerous specialized courses are offered at Saints.
In addition, there is a mandatory outdoor education program for students grades one through ten, as a character and team building exercise. Participation in the program in grade eleven and twelve is optional.
[edit] Extracurricular
Due to Vancoiver's mild climate, Saints is able to provide a year-round athletic program. It has competitive teams in many sports, some of which include rugby, basketball, skiing, rowing, and lawn bowling.
St. George's mandates that its students have a recreational or competitive games choice starting from grade 8.
In addition, the school participates, in other extracurricular activities including robotics, Model United Nations, debating, and School Reach.
[edit] Notes
- The junior school campus is a heritage site.
- St. George's "sister" school is Crofton House School; it also has well-established ties to York House School and Little Flower Academy.
