St James Power Station (Simplified Chinese: 圣占姆士发电厂; pinyin: Shèngzhànmǔshì Fādiànchǎng) is a music and nightlife venue in the HarbourFront area of the Bukit Merah Planning Area, Singapore, near VivoCity.
[edit] History
Built in 1927, it was Singapore's first coal-fired power plant supplying electricity to nearby shipyards, industry and residences.
It was refurbished in two years, and opened as Singapore's largest entertainment complex in the fourth quarter of 2006. The building is owned and developed by Mapletree Investments at a cost of approximately S$40 million.
MediaCorp's Star Awards 2006 was held here on December 10, after more than a decade at Caldecott Hill.
