Stadium Arcadium is the title-track to the Red Hot Chili Peppers' double album, released on May 9, 2006. Flea has been quoted to say that the chorus of the song summarizes the entire album. The band affirms that the song tells the story of a group of people coming together because of music, and that this reflects their own experience of the power of music to bring people together. The song is one of the most-downloaded songs off the albums and it is rumoured to be either the sixth or seventh single off the album.
Anthony Kiedis has said about this song in an issue of the Rolling Stone:
"This is the cup of love - not just love for the individual but for the act of reflecting the light from the heavens, back to the world."
This is also one of the few songs off of Stadium Arcadium that started because of Chad Smith. He made the initial drum beat when he was early for practice, then John Frusciante inspirationally added the guitar which finally left Flea and Anthony Kiedis to add bass and lead vocals on the track before its completion. This song has a very different feel to it when compared to the rest of the album, as it reflects Kiedis development both vocally and lyrically. The steady drumbeat of Chad Smith (reminiscent of that in Californication) creates a powerful vibe to the song.Recent critics have said it is one of the best songs vocally by Anthony Kiedis. It was featured on commercials for the X-games 2006. John Frusicante plays the opening riff throughout the verses and intro, making the simple arpeggiated groove memorable and consistent.
