Stavanger City Bridge
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stavanger City Bridge (Stavanger bybru) is a cable-stayed bridge with one tower that crosses Strømsteinsundet from the centre of Stavanger to Grasholmen and Sjølyst at Hundvåg in Rogaland county in Norway. The bridge is 1067 metres long, the main span is 185 metres, and the maximum clearance to the sea is 26 metres. The bridge has 24 spans.
Stavanger City Bridge was opened in 1978.
The bridge is sadly frequented by suicides. This causes enormous traffic jams, often resulting in completely blocked traffic from Hundvåg to Stavanger for several hours. This problem has resulted in the authorities considering building a tall fence along the bridge.
