[edit] A call to compromise

A settled discussion about topics like accuracy of historical names or contributions is not good. I think a civilized way it should be this:

  • Discussing it first on Lima's talk page.
    • I want to stablish a compromise, an agreement. If i modify something about Lima, i will discuss it first and let it know what i have modified. Your contributions are very important, keep going.HappyApple 03:51, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Province of Lima

Hi, well, the province of Lima (or Lima province) is the political subdivision where is included (¿is it well written?) part of the city of Lima. The rest is on the Callao region. There was a mistake about it, beacose it saidtha city i sdivides un 43 districts, but the divisionis for the province, not for the city. --200.121.46.119 01:59, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

--200.121.46.119 02:12, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hello there

I just realice that you appear after a long time. Tell me, is there any article that I could help you?.

Also, regarding San Marcos, don't you think its a little bit pointless to disscuss about the name? why can a compromise be achieve it. Also, I found the Viajero's remark about HappyApple a little bit out of tone, since in most of the articles that he is involved, he tries to state his own POV.

Anyways, keep on touch ! Messhermit 02:57, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Why, hi

I'm always glad to hear of the existence of another Peruvian. Tell me - where did you learn German? Where did you go to school? Hasdrubal 20:11, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hasdrubal 21:50, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lima intro

Hi, just a minor detail: I noticed you restored some material to the introduction to Lima which I had deleted. I am not sure it doesn't belong there, but I'd only like to point out that we now state that Pizarro founded the city in two places (in the intro and in the history section) Ordinarly, from a strictly stylistic standpoint, this is something to avoid, and I had thought that since the history section was rather thin that it was best to have it there. Just my thoughts. -- Viajero 15:47, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reverts

I reverted your edits because they were incosistent with the rest of the information. (Referenced from the World-Gazatteer website.) [1] -- Earl Andrew - talk 05:38, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The website (which is not mine BTW) has it at 2005. You cannot get that much more up-to-date. Regardless, it should be reverted so the information with the other cities are consistent. Unless you plan on changing every other cities information, you should not touch Lima's. -- Earl Andrew - talk 05:42, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Actually nevermind, Lima does not apear to be well sourced on that website, you may have a more accurate population figure. -- Earl Andrew - talk 05:45, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] San Isidro

I am not your slave. If there is really a district "San Isidro" in Bs.As. then you can add it yourself and make the titles like San Isidro District, Buenos Aires San Isidro District, Lima . I could not find one, that's why I did not add ", Lima". If you provide me evidence of the existence I am willing too to make the changes, if you are not able to do this. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 21:36, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Peruvian Wikipedians

Hello! I thought you might interested in adding your self to the Peruvian Wikipedian's list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Peru

[edit] district renames

Hi Tuomas, I am just curious about the rationale behind your renaming of the Lima districts, such as Villa el Salvador --> Villa El Salvador District. If there is more than one entry for Villa el Salvador, adding "district" would make sense to disambiguate, but Villa el Salvador is now just a redirect to the longer name. As a general rule, we try to find the shortest, distinctive name for a topic. Thanks, Viajero | Talk 10:20, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

Since in Spanish the district's full names are Distrito de ... and since it would be confusing to have district articles with unstandardized names ("Villa el Salvador" & "Huancayo District", both being articles about districts) I decided to standardize the names of the ca. 1820 districts in Peru and make all of them end with the word District.
On a list, it might indeed be confusing to have what you call "unstandarized names", so it would make sense to refer to them as x district, y district, but for the article names, the basic name (with a redirect from the standardized name) is much preferable and you disambiguate only when you need to, as in the case of Huancayo or whatever. It serves no real purpose to call it "Villa El Salvador district" if it isn't necessary.
With all due respect, it seems to me that these kinds of decisions should be discussed first rather than unilaterally applied. Announce what you want to do on a page somewhere, then tip off a few people and get some feedback. Better yet, start up Wikipedia:WikiProject Peru as forum for discussing exactly this kinds of matters. -- Viajero | Talk 11:35, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
  1. The example of US counties is not a good one. As you may know, back in 2002, more than 35k US town and country profiles were uploaded by a bot, and the state name would have been appended automatically to disambiguate to prevent overwrites.
  2. Many of the county names in the US are only known as counties. For example, were I was born, the birth certificate indicates "Middlesex County"; if one were to refer to simply "Middlesex" in that part of the country, it would have no meaning. The being said, Wakulla County, Florida, should, IMO, be called Wakulla County, since there does not appear to be another in a different state, but I would not rename it without further investigation.
  3. The fact that it is done in a given way on the Spanish Wikipedia is a good reason to do likewise here but it is not definitive. The point I am trying to make is that there is no harm in building a little concensus for a decision that potentially effects ~1800 articles. Wikipedia is not two or three thousand isolated editors working in parallel; it is a collaborative effort. When you take the unilateral decision to rename district articles without any warning, is it any surprise that other contributors like me ask what you are up to? -- Viajero | Talk 18:14, 23 May 2005 (UTC)
I support StarbucksFreak. In Latin America there are so many places with equal names that it is better to disambig in front and not at the end. Especailly "Villa de Salvador" might be something with several entries in the future. Furthermore Starbucks was not unilateral, because I once suggested to do what he has done. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 21:22, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] disambig pages

Yes, I delinked some items on San Luis. I was playing around with the (at that time, suggested) guidelines on Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). There it says, "don't wikilink any other words in the line", which is what I did, but I'm kind of inclined to think that perhaps that rule doesn't really work too well for geographical disambig pages (particularly when a bunch of the listed items are redlinks). Put the links back if you feel strongly about it; I still haven't made my mind up. Hajor 18:24, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] RfC?

Hello!

I noticed your name on commons. I am actually considering trying to get Thuresson admin rights revoked, as it seems he is constantly upsetting people by deleting their images in an absolutist way, sometimes without asking them. Although I think it is an important task to make sure there are no copyvio's, some respect and social skills are necessary too in a community such as Wiki. What do you think?

[edit] Lima

Sorry I should of done that before but I didn't have time, I have put my reasoning at the talk page. Falphin 17:20, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

On my monitor the pics were being randomly placed most of which were under the infobox and not even close to the history section. Falphin 17:25, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The article doesn't need that many pics though. Its not that big of an article. IT has 9 big pics and only 10 sections and most of which aren't that big. Falphin 17:31, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I would still wait to change the pics back until it is expanded. Otherwise the article will look disorganized. Falphin 17:37, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Finland

I would regard this as a geography article, and countries' geographical positions should take prominence over any historical, political or cultural considerations. Though the inaccuracy jars, I won't revert it without support if you decide to change it back.

[edit] Peru provinces

I noticed your conversation with Tobias Conradi, and I wanted to ask - IS the proper local format for Peruvian provinces for the "p" in province to be lower case, or "r" in region? Based on your comments it is, I just wanted to verify before starting work there and changing them back. If Tobias can unilaterally change names around then I can unilaterally change them back. What matters is internal consistency, not a worldwide standard. Trust me, he alone is doing this, this is NOT a wiki standard. Please let me know. Thanks. --Golbez 07:09, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Note for the reader that might have come around: I never said the 'p' or 'r' are uppercase in spanish. This was not part of my arguments because this is english WP. Golbez seems to try to spread bad words about me, if he talks about unilaterality. After long debate StarbucksFreak said he would not contest uppercase. So this is not unilateral. And he spreads bad words if he says "he alone is doing this, this is NOT a wiki standard" - I never claimed it to be a wiki standard. I only wanted to avoid mexican, argentinian, chilenean etc english versions. If you lowercase them, lowercase them all. Viva la unidad de América latina, gringo! Tobias Conradi (Talk) 21:15, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Chachapoyas page: copyright?

I noticed that the text on the page you created for Chachapoyas, Peru is the same as a travel website which was written earlier than the Wikipedia page. Are you the writer of both web pages? If not, I am concerned that this is a copyright violation. Can you please clarify? Thanks! Gsd97jks 03:56, 22 August 2005 (UTC)

I have also noticed that the Lomas de Lachay page is copied from another website which was put up prior to the Wikipedia page. Can you please let me know if you have permission to use that text as well? I'm not trying to be hard on you, I am just concerned that this page may also be copyright violation. Gsd97jks 16:27, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for repsonding so quickly. If it's alright with you, I'll re-write the page. I don't want there to be no entry! Thanks also for all your other contributions, it's great to have someone from Peru working on these articles. Gsd97jks 00:05, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Peruvian

I think it's great your trying to write as many articles about peru as you can. I spent a few years down there helping. Incedently, I lived right near the new Starbucks in Jockey Plaza and the other one in El Polo in Surco.

Just thought I'd say it's great that your working on Peruvian articles!

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article 1970 Ancash earthquake, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

[edit] Afro-Peruvian

Thanks for creating the Afro-Peruvian article! It was much needed. AKeen 07:52, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
