Strømsgodset I.F. (or "Godset") is a Norwegian football club from Drammen. The club was founded February 10, 1907, but was most successful in the 60s and 70s, lead by the young striker Steinar Pettersen and his class-mates, who got Strømsgodset I.F. from 4. division to the elite division in just a few years. Strømsgodset I.F. won the Norwegian Premier League in 1970 and the Norwegian Cup in 1969, 1970, 1973 and 1991. In 1997 Strømsgodset I.F. had one of the best seasons in recent times, finishing 3rd in the premier division and losing the cup final.
Before the 2006 season, Strømsgodset I.F. was saved from bankruptcy, by a group of investors. This gave rise to a "new version" of Strømsgodset I.F., and the club signed 13 new players before the 2006 season. (15 players had to leave the club)
The club has a loyal supporter club in GodsetUnionen
Support at Marienlyst Stadium has almost double since last season and the club will be promoted this season to the Norwegian Premier League. The promotion was secured four rounds before the finish, and the 1st place two rounds later. Winger Mattias Andersson became the top scorer for the league, with 21 goals. The team was captained by the legendary Øyvind Leonhardsen. He is also the captain in the 2007 season.
