The Sydney Showground was built as the main Baseball venue for the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and to replace the aging Sydney Showground in Moore Park. It was opened in 1998, and hosted the Sydney Storm in the Australian Baseball League for the 1998-99 championship. However since the final Baseball game of the Sydney Olympics, another game of the sport has not been played at the venue.
In 2001, the Canterbury Bulldogs of the NRL moved their home games to the Sydney Showground, playing there untill 2005 when they moved to Telstra Stadium located a short distance up the road. The Sydney Showground is used as the main arena for the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Big Day Out and many other events including the 2007 Australian Speedway Championship.
