Information
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Information is something that we can learn, know about, or understand. For example, a newspaper contains information about the world.
[edit] Information in Computer Science
Often information and data are used in the same way. In the 1970s and 1980s this was not enough anymore. At that time, the first computer databases were built. In computer science data was defined as raw information. That means, data is not yet changed, not checked and untrusted. Information means data that has been checked and passes acceptance tests. One can have trust in its correctness.
The correctness and trustworthiness of information is subject to the quality and thoroughness of the data verification and acceptance process. Without enough knowledge of the rules and processes that have been applied, or an established trust relationship with the supplier, all received knowledge must be thought of as data, and must undergo acceptance testing before being relied upon.
