Stargate Atlantis is a Television series. It derives from the Stargate SG-1 series, and starts at the beginning of the eighth season of Stargate SG-1.

The main subject of the seventh season of Stargate SG1 was the researching of the city of the Ancients. At the end of the seventh season, SG1 discovered that the city is in Earth, under the ices of Antarctica. But it was in fact only a beachhead : the real city isn't on Earth. Doctor Daniel Jackson finds the coordinates of the city : its name is Atlantis, and it's located on another galaxy : the Pegasus galaxy. That's why the address was hard to find: it needs eight chevrons, the last of which is used to indicate the galaxy.
