The Best of Bob Dylan is a compilation album containing songs by Bob Dylan, released in Canada on November 15, 2005. This is a single disc compilation, containing highlights of Bob Dylan's recording career. It is an abbreviation of The Essential Bob Dylan, though, like the UK "Best of Dylan" compilations from the late 1990's, it is not considered a part of Dylan's official discography.
All contents of this album have been previously released and with the exceptions of "Not Dark Yet" and "Thing Have Changed" have been released in a re-mastered format by the Columbia label. With the exception of Summer Days (from the Dylan album Love and Theft) all were available on the Essential Bob Dylan.
The Best of Bob Dylan is available in a digipak format, in an attempt to imitate a vinyl record. The album has liner notes written by Bill Flanagan, with commentary on each of the tracks in the album. In these notes, it is stated that the album is meant to be a sampler of Dylan's materials for people who are now beginning to express interest.
