The Brothers Chaps
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Brothers Chaps are Michael (Mike) and Matthew (Matt) Chapman, and they are the creators of the Homestar Runner series of animated cartoons.
The brothers are originally from Indiana, but now live in Atlanta, Georgia. They are siblings in real life.
Matt (born November 1, 1976) is the primary voice actor of the site and does the voices for nearly all the characters, with the exception of Marzipan, who is voiced by Mike's wife, Missy Palmer. Matt also attended and graduated from the Florida State University Film School.
Mike (born September 20, 1973), a University of Georgia alumnus, is responsible for half of the Macromedia Flash animation, the technical aspects of the site, and provides intentionally poor imitations of his brother's voice work for the Powered by The Cheat cartoon series.
The "little girl" who appears in the puppet shorts is the daughter of one of the Chapmans' other siblings.
The "other little girl" also lives in Georgia, and is the daughter of a family friend.
The "very, very little girl" is thought to be Missy Palmer and Mike Chapman's daughter.
Their parents, affectionately referred to as "Strong Dad" and "The Mother Chaps", are Don and Harriet Chapman. Don Chapman died on April 15, 2006, at the age of 66.
The brothers make frequent reference to heavy metal, such as Shrapnel Records, and Impelliterri. Various parody metal band names (most notably Limozeen) can be found in Strong Bad e-mails. In one cartoon there is a reference to the band Spinal Tap where on the title of a page for an arcade game on the site it says "quite exciting this computer magic" - a line from the film This Is Spinal Tap. They also have clever insights into death metal and specifically reference Scandinavian death metal, a particularly popular form of death metal.
The brothers directed the video for the group Of Montreal's song "Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse."
[edit] Missy Palmer
Melissa (Missy) Palmer, Mike Chapman's wife, voices the character Marzipan in the Homestar Runner online cartoon series. She and Mike Chapman were married on February 28, 2004; she was his girlfriend during earlier portions of the Homestar Runner history.
In addition to her contributions to Homestar Runner, Palmer works in the film industry as a producer and assistant director.
