[edit] Premise
The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier said that in the film, he planned to show Bruce Banner's struggle with the monster within him. Arad, one of the producers, said that Hulk will be more strongly portrayed as a hero than in the previous film, Hulk. Leterrier said that The Incredible Hulk will be Marvel's horror movie, describing it as "Frankenstein meets Jekyll and Hyde with a little bit of Edward Scissorhands."[2] The Incredible Hulk will follow up Ang Lee's Hulk, but according to producer Avi Arad, the film will be re-interpreted to be closer to the comic book.[3] Producer Kevin Feige has said the film will explore a different angle of the character, "which is that element of wish fulfillment, of overcoming an injustice or a bully and tapping into a strength that you didn't quite realize you had in yourself."[4]
At the 2006 Comic-Con International, Leterrier officially announced that "the anti-Hulk" Abomination would be the villain in the upcoming movie. Leterrier also said that the character General Ross would be returning, but it is not known if Sam Elliott, who portrayed Ross in Hulk, will reprise the role.[5]
[edit] Background
At the time of the release of Hulk, producer Avi Arad discussed the intent for a sequel, which would be based on a script written by James Schamus. In the original script for the sequel, Schamus intended to pen in the Leader and the Abomination as Hulk's villains.[6] At Comic-Con 2006, director Louis Leterrier, who directed The Transporter, Transporter 2 and Unleashed, was officially announced by Marvel Studios to direct The Incredible Hulk. Zak Penn, a screenwriter who contributed to X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand, was hired to pen the movie's script.[2] The budget, according to Avi Arad, will be over $100 million.[7] Leterrier said he planned to use make-up and animatronics in combination with computer-generated imagery that had solely been used to portray the Hulk in the previous film.[8]
In February 2007, Leterrier was scouted shooting locations in Toronto and Vancouver,[9] choosing Toronto later in the month.[10] Filming is set to begin in June 2007,[11] and will last for about four months.[10]
