The Little Mermaid is a Disney Theatrical stage musical based upon the animated Disney film The Little Mermaid which in turn is based on the story of The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen. The musical is currently under production, with new music being written by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, in addition to the original lyrics written by the late Howard Ashman and book by Doug Wright. The musical is directed by Francesca Zambello, marking her Broadway debut, choreographed by Stephen Mear, scenic design by George Tsypin, costume design by Tatiana Noginova and lighting design by Natasha Katz.
The musical will have its world premiere and pre-Broadway tryout at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts' Ellie Caulkins Opera House on July 26, 2007 and will run in Denver through September 9, 2007. The musical will then preview at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on November 3, 2007 and will officially open on Broadway on December 6, 2007. [1] The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre is currently the home of Disney Theatrical's Beauty and the Beast, which will close July 29, 2007 to make way for the new production.
