[edit] Plot
Teacher evaluations are in, and it seems Ross has a student admirer. In a rare burst of inspiration, Joey recommends that he takes the handwriting from the evaluation and match it to the exams to find out who it is. Luckily, there is no need to resort to such tactics - the student Elizabeth comes forward herself.
Unaware that dating a student is actually against the rules, Ross and Elizabeth begin dating. At first, Ross is ashamed of the age difference, but he decides that he likes Elizabeth too much for the difference to bother him and introduces her to his colleagues. They inform him that if he continues to date her, he'll be fired.
Ross and Elizabeth decide they like each other too much to simply give up, and embark on a secret relationship.
Meanwhile, Phoebe's apartment has burnt down. Initially, they believe the cause of the fire was the candles that Phoebe lights, and so Phoebe lets Rachel stay in Monica's fancy new guestroom whilst their apartment gets rebuilt. Phoebe is forced to stay at Joey's rather smelly apartment.
It later emerges that the cause of the fire was actually Rachel's hair straightners, and so the girls swap rooms - Phoebe to be doted on by Monica and Rachel to "slum it" with Joey. Rachel discovers that life at Joey's is actually fun, but Phoebe is reminded of all the reasons that she moved out of Monica's in the first place.
[edit] Sub-Plots
Chandler's old college friend is in town directing a movie, and Joey is desperate to get an audition. Chandler consents to call her up, but refuses to ask her over the phone - since he hasn't seen her in ten years - and they go for coffee together, to Monica's consternation. He finds he can't ask her at coffee after she starts complaining about how one of their old acquaintances rang her up out of the blue and asked to edit her movie, and so he asks her to dinner. At dinner, she misinterprets his eagerness to keep her there, and tells him that she's flattered, but doesn't want to pursue a relationship. She asks him if there's anything that she can do to make it up to him, and he says yes - she can give his friend Joey an audition for her movie.
Joey unfortunately ends up missing the audition anyway.
