The Phish Manual: Compendium to the Music of Phish is one of the first books to be written on the history of the band Phish. It includes the forming of the band at the University of Vermont in 1983, their rise to fame in the late 1980's and early 1990's, and finally discusses their all-time highest concert sales up to 1996.
The book also includes looks into the recording process, the specific albums, and also specific songs. It contained extensive setlisting up to 1996 as well as Budnick's own personal recommendations.
The author, Dean Budnick, was a Harvard University graduate student at the time of publication studying American Civilization.
