The Report Card
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Report Card is a novel by Andrew Clements. It is based on a 5th grade girl, Nora Rowley. Nora is secretly a genius, but doesn't tell anyone for fear that she will be thought of as "different."
Nora's best friend, Stephen, is unfortunately not as academically gifted as Nora herself. After writing tests in the fourth grade to determine intelligence, Stephen receives poor scores. Nora herself also receives poor scores (on purpose of course). After the tests, Nora sees a big change in Stephen. He puts himself down, thinks he's dumb, and fusses about grades. Nora hates to see him in this state and hatches a plan to change testing, causing chaos throughout the school and involving her family, teachers, the principal, and the board of education. The report card that Nora purposely failed comes back to haunt her when her parents call a parent teacher meeting. After dealing with a bully, Nora has a large (and intelligent) outburst. Suddenly, everyone suddenly knows that she is a genius. Her parents are absolutely thrilled. In a blink of an an eye, her parents are planning out the rest of her life.
