The World Today
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The World Today is a flagship current affairs news programme produced by BBC World the BBC's global news and current affairs television channel, and broadcast daily in a simulcast with BBC One and BBC News 24 in the United Kingdom. It has been on air in different formats since 1994.
The programme was originally broadcast several times a day, but disappeared from screens in 1999 at the time of the BBC News relaunch, which also encompassed BBC World. Since 2001, it has been broadcast once a day as a new European breakfast programme, with news, sport and a half hour edition of World Business Report.
[edit] Presenters
The programme in its current format was first presented by Martine Dennis, with Tanya Beckett presenting the business news sections. When Tanya Beckett left the programme in 2002 , she was replaced by Sally Bundock, who is still the main business presenter today. Martine Dennis moved to the morning slot on BBC World in 2003, and was replaced by David Eades as main presenter.
Lucy Hockings joined the programme replacing David Eades in 2006. Eades had left to present the late morning bulletins on BBC World, though he still presents Friday editions of the programme with Jamie Robertson.
Martine Dennis is now the main stand-in presenter of the programme, however, when she is not available any member of the BBC World presenting team will present and has led to presenters including Kirsty Lang, David Jessel, Lindsey Brancher and Mike Embley standing in.
