Transformers: The Movie Prequel, published by IDW Publishing, is a 2007 comic book limited series that serves as a prequel to the 2007 film Transformers. It is written by Simon Furman and IDW editor-in-chief Chris Ryall, who was allowed to read the film's script,[1] and penciled by artist Don Figueroa. Transformers: The Movie Adaptation will be released weekly afterwards.

[edit] Issue 1
In his protoform mode, Bumblebee narrates of how Optimus Prime and Megatron once ruled Cybertron together, guarding over the Allspark. However, Megatron desired the Allspark's power for himself alone, and gathered an army of separatists called the Decepticons. In the battle of Tyger Pax, Megatron's forces attacked, searching for the Allspark. Bumblebee's squad (including Arcee) attempt to hold off the Decepticons, but are eventually overwhelmed. They are captured and tortured, with Megatron intervening personally to torture Bumblebee for information. However, they refuse to speak long enough for Prime's secret plan to take effect — launching the Allspark into outer space. Megatron attempts to pursue it, but Bumblebee stops him. An enraged Megatron crushes Bumblebee's vocal circuits, promising to seize the Allspark for himself eventually, before transforming and pursuing it into space. Bumblebee recovers and is repaired, although his voice is damaged beyond repair. Bumblebee then volunteers to head into space to stop Megatron from acquiring the Allspark.

By the beginning of the second issue, Megatron has almost caught up with the Allspark as it lands on a lifeless planet — Earth. In his reckless desire to possess the Allspark, Megatron pursues it right into Earth's atmosphere, losing contact with it in the process. His body super-heats during his quick descent through the atmosphere and he lands on the Arctic ice sheets. His body mass and temperature causes the ice to crack beneath him, plummeting him into the icy ocean. His body experiences the extreme temperature change which send him into shock, depleting his remaining energon and causing stasis lock. He soon freezes solid in ice.
At the turn of the twentieth century, Captain Witwicky's expedition discovers something in the ice and begins to excavate it. The scene cuts to Witwicky in a Boston psychiatric hospital, being quizzed about what he saw and why he has drawn mysterious symbols on hundreds of sheets of paper. However, Witwicky has been driven insane (and possibly blind) by what he saw. His interrogators, despite systematically discrediting him, have realized he did see something and plan their own expedition to see what it is. By the following year, they have discovered Megatron properly and begun to excavate him, although the interrogator with glasses is also slowly being driven mad, talking to Megatron's inert body (the "Mega-Man"). In 1902 word is radioed up from Colorado of the discovery of a mysterious object with similar markings as Captain Witwicky's drawings — the Allspark.
A century later in 2003, the Hubble Telescope detects something landing on Mars. In a conference between high-ranking individuals they confirm it is another Cybertronian, and plan to respond when it makes its move — as they look at pictures of what appears to be Bumblebee's protoform mode.

The third issue will detail Sector 7's origin.[2] The fourth issue follows Bumblebee on Earth.[3] At one point events on Mars that were briefly glimpsed in the teaser trailer will be shown.[4]

The first issue was due for release in February 2007,[5] but was moved back to March 6 due to a printing error.[6] It will be part of Free Comic Book Day on May 5, 2007.[7] A trade paperback is scheduled for release on June 25,[8] with an adaptation released the same day.[9]
Issues 1 and 2 sold out.[10]

- In issue 1, Bumblebee mentions that the bulk of the Decepticon forces are tied up attacking the city of SimFur — an obvious reference to co-writer Simon Furman.
[edit] Movie Adaptation
Kris Oprisko will write and Alex Milne will pencil a four-issue graphic novelization to tie-in with the film, released weekly in June 2007; on the 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th. It will also feature concept art and interviews.[11]
