Tilton-Northfield, New Hampshire

Tilton-Northfield is a census-designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. The population was 3,231 at the 2000 census. The United States Census Bureau uses the CDP designation as a mechanism to report separate population and demographic detail on more densely populated areas within another entity. In this case, Tilton-Northfield is a settled area located within the towns of Tilton and Northfield, New Hampshire which are in Belknap and Merrimack Counties, respectively.
The area and population reported for the CDP are also included in the aggregate values reported for the respective towns. See: Tilton, New Hampshire and Northfield, New Hampshire.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,231 people, 1,241 households, and 759 families residing in the settlement. The population density was 415.8/km² (1,077.2/mi²). There were 1,311 housing units at an average density of 168.7/km² (437.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.69% White, 0.09% African American, 0.50% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.12% from other races, and 1.92% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.59% of the population.
There were 1,241 households out of which 32.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.5% were married couples living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.8% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.7 males.
The median income for a household is $37,136, and the median income for a family was $45,804. Males had a median income of $31,535 versus $24,709 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $16,792. About 3.1% of families and 6.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 9.6% of those age 65 or over.
