Talk:Timeline of Dragon Ball
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bulma discovers the 5-Star Dragon Ball in a cave to the north.
To the north of what? Could somebody who knows what that's trying to say fix it? Last time I watched Dragon Ball was when I was 4-5.--KojiDude 00:33, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] lol plagerism
I like how simmilar this page is to [1]. I think it deserves a link at the end of the article since you completley ripped it off. Takuthehedgehog 01:13, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I know you know already Taku, but for anyone else, I am currently rewriting the whole thing since Greg Warner asked. It's just a beast of a timeline, and is taking quite a while. -- DesireCampbell 00:03, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- It wasn't ripped off of anything. It's based off of the official timelines provided in the Daizenshuu and similar sources. If anything, that other page is what "ripped off" the original source. You should look up the definition of plagiarism sometime, since this article is clearly not plagiarizing anything.

- The whole thing is Greg Warner's translation, almost word-for-word. He said he'd rather people not rip off his site wholesale. He asked for at least a re-write so it's not word for word his work. I'm in the process of doing that (about half way done) but it's just so long... --DesireCampbell 08:40, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

- It's already been re-written. If you look at it, dozens of changes and improvements have been made, clarifying things that were left vague, or were just plain stupid. He doesn't own Dragon Ball or its timeline last I checked. Compare the two and you'll see that they are not identical. He didn't even spell the names right in many places throughout his version of the timeline ("Rou Kaioushin"? What the hell?) and the names have been fixed in this article. If there are still things that are the same, and someone is obssessed with no one else having information they do, then go ahead and re-write those parts, but the entire thing does not need to be rewritten, just select portions, because much of it has already been changed.

Look at both timelines. Yes most of the the names are different but the timeline is very much a complete copy-paste. Even some of the poor grammar carries over, "After this, they go into a state of suspended animation in a cold sleep." And just look at the rest of the entry for just that day: "Gohan falls into ancient ruins and finds a robot. After a disaster, the robot is destroyed. Gohan becomes more mature. Yamucha is employed as a professional baseball player. Gohan becomes homesick and tries to escape from his training area and return home. After meeting Pigero and other orphans whose parents where killed in a tsunami, he regains his courage and returns to his training."
The only difference? "Yamucha" was changed to Yamcha.
This is grade school plagiarism. Copying a whole article and changing a few lines is plagiarism. I'm rewriting the whole thing, which is still (basically) plagiarism but it'll at least be half-original. -- DesireCampbell 12:15, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] GT: 5 years, or 10?
Okay, before anyone does this again, here's the scoop:
- In Funimation's English dub they, for some inexplicible reason, decide to say that GT happens ten years after the ending of Z. This line is not present in the original script, and it, like "Bardock is a scientist" is completely erroneous.
- The GT 'Perfect File' books, which are what the GT portion of this timeline are derived from, state five years, not ten.
Stop changing dates. Please? --DesireCampbell 13:32, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Nevermind my previous comment. I thought I was the one at fault, but apparently I changed it to the correct version after all. x_x

Haha! You changed the dates back correctly, others have been changing them. I doubt they mean to vandalize, they just don't know the correct information. I hoped that this bit of Talk would deter others. --DesireCampbell 01:10, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
About GT, I doubt that the Bebi and Super 17 sagas are 1 year apart, especially with Vegeta being jealous of Goku for being SSJ4, it would not have taken a year for him to react. It more like hints that 1-2 weeks passed between the Bebi and Super 17/Shenron arcs.
[edit] Clean-up
This page really needs to be cleaned up. For one thing, It cannot decied wether it is using the Japanese style names or the american style names. Is he "king Kai" or "North Kaio" is he "Chibi Trunks" or just "Trunks"? I dont mind which, but just pick one and stick with it. Also the whole format of the page is off. Sometimes, if multiple things happend the same year, they will all be on the same entry, yet other times multiple etries for the same year can be seen. And Finally, the inclusion of the movie timelines is for the most part confusing and cotradictory. For example, it states that Goku defeated Lord Slug, yet it the goes on to state they he arrived on earth later. How could he have fought Lord Slug if he was in Space? I belive we need to make note of what happens in movies and what happens in the anime, so as to avoid confusion. For the most part, the movies do NOT follow the timeline of the anime. Perhaps even a seperate movie timeline could be made. This page is a little sloppy and could use some work from someone who knows more about the WHOLE DBZ timeline than I do. [edit] DB Movies
While the movies were really just made without any regard as to how they would fit in the timeline of the series, I remember asking the creator of a series here in Canada (cartoon, most would never have heard of it). Anyways, the question was about: "canon" (which is really a wrong term to ask :"what's in the real timeline"). He didnt seem to care much about it, but just stated that the general rule in all fiction is that : "If it's meant to fit into a timeline, or if it actually fits...then it's part of the timeline".
About this I recently watched all the DBZ movies (box set) and none of them make any attempt to fit into the timeline: Except Movie 9 (which actually goes out of it's way to explain many things and actually fits the story nicely into the DB timeline with no problems). Also Movie 13 is the only other one that fits perfectly without any issues, though it can be argued that it wasnt made to fit after the Buu saga (unlike movie 9 which is obvious).
The only thing that hurts Movie 13 is : "Where is buu or Piccolo?". Well Buu would have to still be hidden for half a year as was promised at the end of the buu fight, and Piccolo, who knows. (you can use any explanation). But as things stand, I believe Movie 9 should be part of the anime canon as it not only fits in, but it's meant to fit in too.
