Timothy Leonard Spall OBE (born February 27, 1957) is an English BAFTA award-nominated actor from Battersea, London who has trained at the National Youth Theatre and RADA, where he was awarded the Bancroft Gold Medal as the most promising actor in his year.

Initially famous in the U.K. for playing the gormless Barry in the first two series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, he has starred in films such as Secrets & Lies, Shooting the Past, Rock Star, The Last Samurai, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (in which he played Mr. Poe) most often playing good guys and trusted friends. He recently appeared as the slimy Peter Pettigrew ("Wormtail") in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
More recently he has been in the return of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and the BBC drama Mr. Harvey Lights a Candle.
In 1996 Spall was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, but has been in remission for 10 years as of 2006. He has said of his illness:

I am less worried about employment. I really do my homework so I am not getting stressed on the set because I don't know what I'm doing." | †|
On December 31st (New Year's Eve) he was named an officer of the British Empire.
Spall also had a memorable performance as Nick in the claymation film Chicken Run. He appeared in an episode of Red Dwarf entitled "Back to Reality". He voiced Phil Collins' manager in the 2006 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories Barry Mickelthwaite. The game was set in Vice City, in 1984.
He was a guest star on 'Top Gear' talking about the films he had done with Tom Cruise.[citation needed]
He is married and has three children: Mercedes, (born 1985), Pascale (born 1976) and Rafe (born 1983), who is also an actor. He lives in Forest Hill a suburb of south-east London.
