[edit] Plot
While Road reflects on how much fun she had fighting Allen, the Earl is hard at work convincing a widow named Sarah to call back her husband's soul to make him into an Akuma. Meanwhile Allen, who is still being treated for his wounds, asks Komui what kind of treatment Lenalee is having so Komui tells him that she is getting acupuncture. Allen then continues, saying that he knows that Komui did not come just for them, and proceeds to ask him about the Noah family. Suddenly Lavi comes out of nowhere and explains that the Noah family only appears at the turning points of history and is not recorded in written text. As Lavi continues to provide information, he receives a kick in the face by an old man, who scolds his apprentice for trying to take over his job early. He introduces himself as Bookman to Allen, whom he noted is the "Destroyer of Time," and explains that the Bookman clan examines history that is not written. Examining the boy's left eye, Bookman concludes that the eye is regenerating on its own so his needles are not needed. Since they cannot go anywhere until Lenalee wakes up, he recommends that Allen should rest. Lavi suggests going out for a walk so Allen agrees.
During the walk, Allen informs the Bookman's apprentice that he is 15 years old, which makes him younger than Lavi who is 18 years old. Lavi then asks if he can call Allen "Bean Sprout" since Yu does; he then explains to a confused Allen that "Yu" is Kanda's first name. However, he believes that they will not see Kanda any time soon because the missions will be harder since the Earl is making his moves based on the Noah's appearance. This prompts Allen's memory of Road so he declares that he became an exorcist to destroy Akumas - not humans. He insists that he is going to walk by himself and that Lavi can go back ahead of him. Walking into a crowded festival, Allen becomes deathly afraid when he realizes that he can no longer detect who is a human and who is an Akuma. A flower girl comes up to him and suddenly transform into an Akuma. Before she can kill Allen, Lavi appears and destroys her with a giant mallet, his anti-Akuma weapon. After defeating another Akuma, Lavi uses his mallet to send the two flying out of town.
During this time, Bookman just finishes telling Komui information about the Noah family. He notes that Komui looks like he is suffering, but the Head Officer says that the exorcists have it worse than he. The old man disagrees and tells Komui that everyone suffers during a war. While that is happening, Allen and Lavi lands in a nearby forest. The latter points out that Allen seems to be afraid of human since he did not attack the Akuma and figures it was because Allen does not have his left eye, which he considers as convenient, right now. Hearing this, Allen admits the truth. He wonders how Lavi was able to know who is an Akuma or not so Lavi explains. Unlike Allen, the rest of the exorcists do not have any ways to tell who is an Akuma and learn to suspect all humans to be the Earl's allies. To draw out the Akuma, the exorcists wear their coat. This reminds Allen of a time when he was with Cross. He asked his master why he wears that coat since it attracts a lot of attention. Cross answered that he does not wish to hide from his enemies whom he cannot see. Wearing this coat makes him a target so no innocent people will be hurt. He then asked Allen if he is ready to become a target as well.
When the townpeople arrive with three police officers, one of the officers points a gun at Allen. Lavi immediately smashes him, which reveals that his true identity - an Akuma. Soon the two exorcists battle the rest of the crowd who are actually Akuma. As he fights, Allen begins to understand what his colleagues have to face and becomes more determined. Seeing an Akuma holding a girl hostage, the exorcist destroys the former and asks if the girl is okay. To show her gratitude, she points a gun to his head, but Allen, who anticipates it, quickly destroys her. After the battle is over, Allen's eye patch falls off and it is revealed that his left eye appears to be healed. As it started to snow, Allen makes a vow to himself that he will continue to walk this path along with this coat.
