Torneio Rio-São Paulo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Torneio Rio-São Paulo (or Rio-São Paulo Tournament) was a traditional Brazilian football competition contested between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro teams.
Brazil has a fairly weak history of national competitions, with the modern Campeonato Brasileiro having started in 1971, and the CBF not officially recognizing the Taça Brasil and Taça Robertão that preceded it in national title counts. In the era prior to these truly national competitions, given the greater number of major clubs in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, historians consider the Rio-São Paulo Tournament as the most prestigious title for any team to claim.
From 2000 to 2002, the Torneio Rio-São Paulo champions granted qualification to the Copa dos Campeões.
