• April 1, 1998 - Cyclone Zuman hit Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu as an intense cyclone, causing severe damage there.

• April 2, 2000 - Cyclone Tessi (pictured) hit the Queensland coast to the north of Townsville. Tessi brought the highest April daily rainfall on record to the area.

• April 3, 1846 - A storm hit the mouth of the Mississippi River, causing heavy rain. It is unknown if the storm was a tropical cyclone.

• April 4, 1978 - Cyclone Alby (track pictured) passed close to the southwest corner of Western Australia, killing 5 people, and causing $39 million of damage along the coastline.

• April 5, 1967 - Typhoon Violet reached its peak strength with 220 km/h (140 mph) winds in the Philippine Sea. Violet hit northern Luzon a few days later causing minimal damage.

• April 6, 2006 - Cyclone Hubert (pictured) reached its peak with a central pressure of 970 hPa (mbar), near the Western Australia coastline.

• April 7, 1982 - Cyclone Dominic (pictured) hit the Northern Territory, Australia. Dominic caused at least $3.6 million of damage, mostly in the Darwin area.

• April 8, 2000 - Cyclone Hudah (pictured) hit Mozambique a few weeks after Cyclone Leon-Eline had devastated the region. Hudah caused at least 27 deaths in Madagascar.

• April 9, 2004 - Typhoon Sudal (pictured) hit Yap in the Carolina Islands, destroying 90% of the buildings on the island and killing one person.

• April 10, 1968 - The TEV Wahine hit the Barrett Reef near Wellington, with 51 of the people on board dying. Cyclone Giselle was partly responsible for the loss of the ship.

• April 11, 1998 - Cyclone Gemma reached its peak with winds of 130 km/h 80 mph) winds in the central Indian Ocean.

• April 12, 2002 - Cyclone Bonnie reached its peak strength with 85 km/h (50 mph) winds after passing over Timor.

• April 13, 1991 - The Angola Tropical Cyclone of 1991 (pictured) reached its peak strength off the Angola coast, becoming the first tropical cyclone on record in the South Atlantic.

• April 14, 1985 - Cyclone Gretel passed directly over Darwin, Northern Territory causing extensive damage there but no casualties. Gretel caused a total of $3.5 million of damage.

• April 15, 2000 - Cyclone Neil (pictured) reached its peak strength with a central pressure of 992 hPa (mbar). Neil brought heavy rains to Fiji.

• April 16, 2003 - Typhoon Kujira (pictured) reached its peak strength with wind of 250 km/h (155 mph) in the Philippine Sea. Kujira killed 2 people on Pohnpei in Micronesia.

• April 17, 1997 - Cyclone Ian reached its peak with 100 km/h (65 mph) winds, when it was just to the south of Fiji.

• April 18, 2000 - Tropical Storm Innocente (pictured) reached its peak strength with winds of 65 km/h (40 mph) in the central Indian Ocean. Innocente did not affect any landmass.

• April 19, 2000 - Cyclone Rosita (pictured) reached its peak strength with a central pressure of 930 hPa (mbar) just to the north of Broome, Western Australia.

• April 20, 1997 - Typhoon Isa reached its peak with winds of 270 km/h (165 mph) to the west of the Mariana Islands. Isa passed to the south of Guam, where it caused beneficial rainfall.

• April 21, 2003 - Tropical Storm Ana (pictured) became a fully tropical cyclone, the first on record in the Atlantic during April.

• April 22, 1989 - Cyclone Orson struck the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The storm sank several boats near Ashmore Island, killing 4 people and caused over $20 million of damage.

• April 23, 2006 - Cyclone Monica (pictured) reached its peak strength just off the northern Australia coast, with a central pressure of 905 hPa (mbar).

• April 24, 2001 - Cyclone Alistair made landfall near Carnarvon, Western Australia. The highest reported wind gust was 90 km/h (55 mph).

• April 25, 2005 - Typhoon Sonca (pictured) reached its peak strength with a central pressure of 928 hPa (mbar) to the east of the Philippines.

• April 26, 1999 - Typhoon Kate (pictured) reached its peak strength with winds of 140 km/h (85 mph) in the Philippine Sea. Kate only had minimal effects on land in the Philippines and on Iwo Jima.

• April 27, 1974 - Tropical Storm Babe passed just to the east of Guam before hitting Saipan as a developing system.

• April 28, 2006 - Cyclone Mala (pictured) reached its peak strength with a central pressure of 954 hPa (mbar). Mala hit Myanmar soon after, killing 22 people.

• April 29, 1991 - The 1991 Bangladesh cyclone (pictured) made landfall near Chittagong, Bangladesh, killing over 138,000 people and causing $1.5 billion of damage.

• April 30, 2007 - The Southern Hemisphere tropical cyclone seasons officially end, apart from the region of Mauritius and the Seychelles.
