United States Green Building Council

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a non-profit organization devoted to shifting the building industry towards sustainability, targeting how buildings are designed, built, and operated. The USGBC is most famous for the development of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system and Greenbuild, a green building conference.
It is the nation's foremost coalition of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work. Their more than 7000 member organizations work together to develop a variety of programs and services, and forge strategic alliances with key industry and research organizations and federal, state, and local government agencies. Council programs are Committee-Based, Member-Driven, and Consensus-Focused.
