I find the Wikipedia Project tremendously empowering. It reminds me of the small army of volunteers who contributed to of the original Oxford English Dictionary, an effort chronicled in Simon Winchester's The Professor and the Madman. By the way, the OED once again (since 1999) relies on volunteers - you can contact them at www.oed.com/readers/.

Well, with 1,713,934 entries in Wikipedia at the moment, and dozens more every minute (actually, it's more like 4 or 5 (see Special:Newpages)), I must imagine something much bigger than a small army is at work on this juggernaut. And all since 2001.

Nearly a century after the 1911 Edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, Wikipedia too threatens to become "the sum of human knowledge" for modern times. I believe that through the dedicated efforts that I see everywhere through the Project pages, it will someday be relied on as a standard reference. To be part of this is fantastic.

My methods are completely random. Many of my contributions have been initiated by finding empty entries or stubs during 'Random Article' searches. I tend to focus on biographical matters rather than technical ones. I am also interested in connections. Many of my minor edits have been to trace connections between articles and to fix links.
