It's easy to find sites with a mechanical advantage formula for 1st class levers, but it is not immediately obvious how to find mechanical advantage for 2nd and third class levers, other than 3rd class levers MA is less than one.
This rule—mechanical advantage equals resistance divided by effort —applies to all machines A second class lever's mechanical advantage islike a first class lever's in that the distances are measured from the fulcrum and the MA is greater than 1.
Your arm is a third-class lever. It is this lever action that makes it possible for you to flex your arms so quickly. Your elbow is the fulcrum. Your biceps muscle, which ties onto your forearm about an inch below the elbow, applies the effort; your hand is the resistance, located about 18 inches from the fulcrum. The leverage is good concept. But people coming in from mathematics or statistics background, it easier to grasp with this view or matrices view, more than the torque and it is quite useful to get introduced to it in a brief way as it is now. By introducing it to the torque it would be difficult as it would look like more of a mechanics definition what it is instead of it being related to other fields. I do not believe that this term belongs in physics at all, but rather in chemistry. The term is a practical one used as an aid to mass spectrometry and does not correspond to any useful physical concept.
The discussion regarding why the lightest isotope is not the most abundant assumes that the reader expects it to be the most abundant. The innocent bystander wouldn't; nor would the expert. I think a few graphics would improve the explanation. I did not edit past the first P. (edit comment)
