[edit] London Underground stock info boxes
Please do not come along and change the info boxes that are being added to the London Underground rolling stock pages. The boxes you are replacing are being added under a wiki project and were added after discussion. If you feel the need to add please discuss it first. Jsp3970 13:14, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- If you feel like improving the info boxes that's fine, as I said the idea to add the info in the first place was discussed before being implented. I will be the first to admit that it is not perfect and does need to be improved, which is why you see so many different versions right now. I did revert three, as these are the ones I am working on to improve, testing to see which would be the best. It is the aim to have a standard infobox across all stock, past, present, and future. Unfortunately with your design this would not work as photos of the stock from the past can't be added, due to copyright issues. This was considered before adding the infoboxes hence the lack of photos in them. - These discussions took place on the user page of myself and Unisouth. He asked for me to standerdize the rolling stock pages as that is my only interest in London Underground. If you look on my talk page it is signed Lenny (used to be Unisouths ID until a few months ago). I know it isn't much of a conversation but at the time I was the only one interested in working on this part of the project. I must admit that the layout of yours looks better than mine, I was trying to use colour codes to indicate if it was a tube stock (blue) and surface stock (red). However indicating which line they are assigned to would not work for older stock, and for some of the new stock it doesn't indicate what lines they may have worked on in the past. - For some of the stock, it can get confusing trying to include the information for when they worked on specific lines, I think it would be best if that was left to be included in the main article. This is what I had to do with the numbers, moving them from the info box into the main article as some fleets were quite extensive and not all numbers could be listed. I do like the part where it states the years that the stock was in service. Also there should be something to attract the eye to the infobox, maybe a different colour for the background of the heading. Also at the bottom you have listed the different car types. Over the many years there have been many different types of car designations, not all of which would fit into the bottom of the box. Jsp3970 20:59, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- I added seating to the template. Have added the infobox to London Underground G Stock. You may see why I suggest a different colour for the header as without a photo it tends to blend together. As for infoboxex being muted, no way. I have seen some very colourful infoboxes. Check out the following for an example EN57, and British Rail Class 17. - Somehow it would seem wrong to use metric units for the old stock. All the sources I have for them gives the units in imperial. But it could very well be given in both units, for modern units - metric (imperial) - for older units - imperial (metric). But at what point to you decide what is old or modern. May I suggest 1967 stock for the tube and A60/62 stock for the surface stock. Jsp3970 04:31, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
