[edit] Juan Cole Page

I appreciate your concern for the page, but this issue has dragged on for two months now. The mediator has been absent for nearly a month now, and there is no real discussion going on about the article. The specific contested issue here is Karsh's charge of anti-semitism against Cole, and whether to include it or alter its presentation. Karsh's charge is not a notable one - it has only gained notoriety through the Wikipedia article, and Cole only felt compelled to reply at all after reading the article [1]. -Thucydides411 04:13, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:HH-3-minigun-vietnam-crop.GIF

Thanks for uploading Image:HH-3-minigun-vietnam-crop.GIF. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:07, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks!

Thanks for the rusty plow—horse-drawn, I trust. I'll be polishing it up. I do so much reverting every day on all kinds of articles on my watch list that I hadn't really noticed how many of those were on the Amish article of late. JonHarder 05:43, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for help.

I am requesting your help in making the Northkill Amish Settlement page more encyclopedic. Reidhoch 12:25, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

  • The article looks much better, thank you very much. Reid Hochstedler 12:22, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Emma Watson

Please do not restore the image to this article; per WP:FUC, character images cannot be used to identify actors. Thanks. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 23:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Lancaster County Amish Crop.JPG listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Lancaster County Amish Crop.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in its not being deleted. Thank you. —Nv8200p talk 13:03, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Usk

What is the problem with the image at Usk ? You say my layout "covered the text" - ?? Looks perfectly good to me, but your layout relegates the image to a misplaced and undersized box underneath the text box, with acres of white space to the left. I've not had this issue arise elsewhere - is it simply a problem with your set-up ? Ghmyrtle 21:40, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lincoln image

Hello

My bot is not responsible (I've stopped using it on commons some months ago, due to various malfunctions)

Please take a better look at the image history - The first lincoln was indeed uploaded by my bot (sept 29th), but the picture was replaced a few days ago by the following person :

(suppr) (rétab) 1 janvier 2007 à 09:20 . . Lglswe (Discuter | contributions) . . 800×370 (34 354 octets) ({{Information |Description = Lincoln |Source = |Date = |Author = Lars-Göran Lindgren Sweden |Permission = }} Category: Lincoln vehicles )

I've reverted to the previous version.

[edit] Northwest passage

Hi, Why you yave removed a link which I inserted in the page Northwest passage. It is a good source of information about the legal dispute, and quite neutral I believe. Anyway, I am not going to insist on its insertion, just curious why?--Dacy69 22:14, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

There are a dozen external links already in addition to those already embedded in the article. Also, that link gave me a funny "cult-owned-profitable-seafood-corporation/ unprofitable-media-conglomerate declaring that global warming will improve fishin' in contrast to all rational scientific evidence" feeling.

[edit] Roma People Image

Hi W, Thanks for taking the time and trouble to improve the lead image for Roma People. I recognise your user name from around the Wiki, so perhaps you remember the ongoing defense of the previous image (the three girls) and all the disruption one troll could cause. Anyway, I was going to replace the polish pic with Rita Hayworth myself, but realised that you probably have the composition arranged on your hard drive (the others are certainly perfect for the pic) already. The other possiblity is Elvis Presley, but his ancestry is controversial and would start yet another running conflict. István 03:58, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

It appears the trend for ethnography articles is to show a handful of the most famous/important people from the group, e.g., the Albanians article shows Skanderbeg, Pope Clement XI, Mehmet Ali & King Zog; English people has Elizabeth I, Isaac Newton, William Shakespeare, & Charles Darwin. Both Elvis and Rita are of very mixed ancestry and are not strongly associated with Rom identity in the popular mind, so I think they would prove unpopular edits. Too bad about the greek girls pic! I do not have a copy, or I would have restored it. Wachholder0 04:11, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thomas Silverstein

I don't know whether you spotted the other version of that page in it's history (see [2]). There has been a bit of reverting back and forth between the two recently. You might find the other version a bit better base to work from! →Ollie (talkcontribs) 23:11, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Amish/Mormon

There's not much left of this paragraph, and who cares about the mistranslated title of a film? I'm thinking the rest of the paragraph should be deleted for lack of notability. Lou Sander 19:17, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I am pretty much in agreement there. Including unreferenced lists of erroneous beliefs is probably a bad practice. Wachholder0 20:34, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Possibly unfree Image:RomMontage.JPG

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:RomMontage.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. Please go to its page for more information if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 10:33, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Meiji University#Famous alumni

Our Hon. Rep. Koichi Hagiuda whose career in the Diet is rather brief (2003-) and has not experienced major national party position or minister or vice-minister. In short he looks like a backbencher.) Among many other alumni politicians (see ja:明治大学の人物一覧#.E6.94.BF.E6.B2.BB.E5.AE.B6 ) he appeared as the only politician entry ahead of other alumni. (sorry that I live abroad and not a Meijian.) I do not think it is appropriate on the NPOV policy of Wikipedia.

Please note Meiji is a kind of multiversity with many alumnis. Consensus making among them with conflicting interests could be impossible. In the Japanese edition there is a separate article for the alumni list and it is semi-protected. Soredewa 02:07, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Zumbo1.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Zumbo1.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 09:49, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
