WBLX is a Mainstream Urban-formatted radio station that serves Mobile, Lower Alabama, and Pensacola. They broadcast on the 92.9 megahertz frequency on the FM dial. The station is the longtime heritage urban-formatted radio station of the region being on some 25 years as an Urban. In 2006, WBLX began broadcasting in IBOC digital radio, using the HD Radio system from iBiquity.
The station has enjoyed national attention recently due to the on-air resignation of former WBLX air talent "Inetta The Moodsetta." The audio of her sign-off, punctuated with the phrase "I Quit This Bitch!!!", has become an internet phenomenon.
[edit] History
WBLX began as FM counterpart to gospel station WMOO 1550 AM. As WBLX, with the Urban contemporary format, has been one of the market's leading stations with the same calls and format for about 25 years. In 1998, Cumulus acquired competitor WDLT-FM, and skewed it to being an Urban Adult Contemporary. This has allowed WBLX to skew it's programming towards a younger audience as a Mainstream Urban. Also for many years, WBLX carried the "93BLX Jams", The Beat of the Bay brandname, however, in 2000 they changed its brand to The Big Station!, "93BLX".
