Wesley College, Delaware is a private, coeducational institution located in Dover, the capital of Delaware State, USA. Founded in 1873 as a preparatory school to provide a value-centered education to students of all races and faith, Wesley College has a covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church and is named for John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.
Originally called Wilmington Conference Academy, it became Wesley Collegiate Institute in 1918 and Wesley College conferred its first four-year degrees in 1978. Graduate programs were added in the 1990s. The institution is Delaware’s oldest private college.
Wesley College's history has been long and varied. From the closing of the school during the Great Depression to the student protests of 1997 against the administration, Wesley's quiet shady campus belies a vibrandt history. Recently, controversary surrounding the February 2006 rape of a student, alleged plagarism scandals against Dr. Scott Miller, and freshman housing overcrowding has had many re-evaluate the college, and look into ways to better prepare the college and its students for the 21st century.
Wesley College currently enrolls 2,400 students.
