This WikiProject is an attempt to formulate a common template for the Hungarian historical counties. It suggests a structure which would make them more structured and give them a common look and feel.

The effort should be coordinated with the Hungarian Wikipedia (see hu:Kategória:Magyar Királyság vármegyéi), the German Wikipedia (see de:Liste der historischen Komitate Ungarns) and the Slovak Wikipedia (see sk:Historické župy na Slovensku). [edit] Article name
Ideally, this should be just the Hungarian name of the county (e.g. Hont). There are some reasons to deviate:
- In Slovakia the Slovak versions of the names are still used very often, so the Slovak names are used for the titles.
- In case something else with the same name exists (a town) the title becomes X (county). In case a modern Hungarian county exists with the same name, the old county's article will have "former county" in the title, e.g. Békés (former county). Special case: Arad (Hungarian county).

The article should start with a good introduction, giving the name of the county, its location in Pre-Trianon Hungary, the country it is in now, its capital (if that's not a separate heading).
Example:
Kis-Küküllő is the name of a historic administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory is presently in central Romania (central Transylvania). Kis-Küküllő is the Hungarian name for the river Târnava Mică. The capital of the county was Târnăveni (Romanian, Dicsőszentmárton in Hungarian).

The infobox contains the fields:
- name: name of the county in Hungarian
- capital: the capital of the county in 1910, Hungarian name first, then (if applicable) the current official name, preceded by the country code.
- area: the area (units km²) in 1910, including urban counties (technically not part of the county)
- population: the population in 1910, including urban counties
- map: see /Maps
- present: in which countries is the county territory currently, in order of county area

Bordering counties (and other states), significant rivers, lakes and mountains. Area and population (around 1910). In- or excluding urban districts and counties? Name, capital, area and population can also be in the infobox alone.

The Slovak counties have a chapter capitals, because they changed during the ages (the articles cover 11th century to present). Since it's usually just one line, it would also fit in the history section.
