Welcome to WikiProject Luxembourg, a collaboration to improve all manner of articles related to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The WikiProject aims to coordinate this effort to galvanise its members to improve Luxembourgian articles more effectively. This page and its subpages contain the suggestions of the members; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject and Wikipedia:WikiProject/Best practices.

[edit] Goals

Within the scope of this WikiProject lies every article to do with Luxembourg: the land, the people, the history.

The goal of the WikiProject is to improve the coverage of Luxembourg, and all of its facets, so that the articles on Luxembourg are of such a high quality and quantity that the casual visitor will forget (or not realise in the first place) that Luxembourg has a population of under half a million people.

Specifically, the WikiProject has been set up to:

  1. Produce several showcase articles, covering the main areas of Luxembourgian geography, history, culture, and economy.
  2. Reduce the number of red links within articles on Luxembourg. Sometimes, a stub is all that is required.
  3. Channel local knowledge of Luxembourg into the articles.
  4. Achieve better coordination with the Luxembourgish, French, and German Wikipedias' content on Luxembourg.
  5. Improve the number of images in articles, particularly photographs of people.

[edit] Projects

  1. Write bodies of text for each Prime Minister of Luxembourg.
  2. Write bodies of text for each Canton of Luxembourg.

[edit] Tasks

  1. Tag and assess all Luxembourg-related articles with {{WikiProject Luxembourg article}}.
  2. Promote Luxembourg to a Featured Article.
  3. Promote Luxembourg (city) to a Good Article.
  4. Create an over-arching article on the History of Luxembourg, linking together the in-depth articles to form one broad narrative.

[edit] Structure

[edit] Parentage

[edit] Hierarchy definition

No classification of this project has been defined.

[edit] Adopt an article

You might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.

[edit] Current adoptions

[edit] Style conventions

The following are conventions for the editing of articles within the scope of WikiProject Luxembourg. To discuss the conventions as they are now, or to suggest new additions, visit the talk page.

[edit] Spelling and usage

  • British English is to be used for all articles. This reflects the overwhelming usage in both official and unofficial circles in Luxembourg and Europe as a whole. Exceptions may be made if the article is connected to a country in which the norm is to use another dialect of English, e.g. Luxembourg American.
  • 'Luxembourgian' it to be used for the adjective of Luxembourg. Whilst there is debate on the matter, standardisation around one of the options is vital; 'Luxembourgian' probably has the edge in terms of dictionary corroboration, and is more frequently used on Wikipedia. 'Luxembourgish', by comparison, is the name of the language, whilst 'Luxembourger' is the demonym.

[edit] Languages

  • Article titles are to be rendered as they are usually in English. A good way to check is to use the Luxembourg Tourist Office, or similar 'official' sites directed at English speakers. This is not to say that names not derived from English are unacceptable, provided that they are regularly adopted by English speakers, e.g. Gëlle Fra. If it is the case that an article does use a non-English title, the usual English-derived title is to be the first name given, as in the case of Gëlle Fra's title of 'Monument of Remembrance'.
  • All alternative names in the three official languages of Luxembourg should then be given. They are to be in the order of: Luxembourgish, French, German. For an example, see Adolphe Bridge. If a name in one of the languages is the same as that in English, it can be excepted, e.g. 'Eich' is the name in English, French, and German, but not Luxembourgish.

[edit] Assessment

The assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's articles on Luxembourg. Currently, the article ratings are used primarily within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the {{WikiProject Luxembourg article}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.
