I was directed to put my comments here by Futurebird. I see no reason given for the addition to Indigenous Australians. If it applies here, it applies to any page of H. sapiens. Why was it applied? Please leave a explanation at that talk page. Fred 08:27, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. Blackness does not necessarily indicate African heritage, unless you're talking "Everyone came from Africa at one point," in which case skin color is irrelevant. — Emiellaiendiay 07:34, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. The page catches a lot of malicious attention, but I don't think this was anything but a simple error. However, there is a minor political connection. Gary Foley attempted to key into american 'black' unity when the civil rights movement got underway in Australia. Some disagreed with this strategy as buying into 'white' ideas of race and superficial differences as a suitable approach to humanity. Others believed that the (sometimes) identifiable difference could be inverted from one of oppression to a source of pride. Good luck with the project.

Afro-European, Black people in Ireland, African Italians, British African-Caribbean community, Black Ladino, Black Seminoles, Cimarron people (Panama), Garifuna, Saramaka, Afro-Ecuadorian people, Afro Costa Rican (there's talk about merging it with Afro-Latin American), Afro-Guyanese... and now I just discovered List of topics related to Black and African people. Somebody should create an article called Black Athiests for consietency with Black Jews and Black Muslims. There definently needs to be an article called Black Christians as well.--Sefringle 04:11, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Let me be clear. I don't have the energy to start this new project right now. I have my hands full with this and trying to fix the serious problems over at the race and intelligence article. I think that maybe we should let WP-AFRO one gain some momentum, and eventually there will be a group of people who simply must have a WP:AFROAM -- then we can build it. I just wanted to start with the biggest catch-all topic first so that we could work with all the all our brothers and sisters around the world-- I expect there will be an Afro-cuban project some day and all kinds of other spin-offs. But, right now we have maybe 11 people working here. Please let others know about this project, email your friends. This is nothing but a list of names and when they lived, with no further explanation. Many of the people listed there don't even have their own articles. It's been suggested for expansion at the Project: Reference Desk Article Collaboration as well. ---Sluzzelin 00:17, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

I think it refers to America in the continental sense, Futurebird, as it does in Latin America. Though it may have been an error on the part of the creator. Either way, the template could do with improvement, but it also provides a few links. -- Zleitzen^(talk) 07:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I would love to be able to contribute to this article that has yet to be created. I am new, and am lost on how and where to begin. (short of copying another page layout, then adding information and knowledge on this subject.) I am overwhelmed at the HTML and Wiki language to even attempt to create a page. Help is very much appreciated. I think this could be great article and contribution to the Project. There is much history involving Africans in France, especially around the French Revolution and in the country of Haiti. Slavery and mulattoes also have a place in this topic. It also connects to America, such as in New Orleans and the Creole people. Plenty of history here; religion, uprisings, art, and culture effecting Europe, especially France, Haiti and French Polynesia. Jeeny 04:38, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Can we consider merging Music of the African diaspora and Afro-American music, preferably under the title Music of the African diaspora? Afro-American music to me, and I think most people, refers to music of the United States, and it seems strange to see Latin American and Caribbean music there. Outside the Americas, music of African heritage is largely confined to Britain and on occasion Holland, France, Belgium and Germany which can be included in the new title. Me three. I think Music of the African diaspora could give a comprehensive overview, with forks for zooming into detail, but covering all regions on Earth with a history (and/or presence) of music by an African diaspora population, including the United States, Cape Verde, Israel, etc. ---Sluzzelin talk 22:31, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

A Music of the African diaspora article could be a really good one, relatively easy to develop and could perhaps become the project's first featured article with a bit of combined work - I scanned the featured article list and found only 11 featured articles related to subjects from the African diaspora (see our project page) - only 2-3 taking any kind of overview - and one of those articles I wrote myself largely alone. The lack of representation is shocking. A structure for Music of the African diaspora can be quickly created, initially by borrowing text from numerous other pages. I think that if the subject matter can been developed by highlighting some of the recurring themes of black music throughout the world, and how these themes manifest themselves in different ways, then we've got the basis of a really educational piece of work. Lately I've been writing the Buena Vista Social Club article (which incidentally has a full section dedicated to aspects of the African Diaspora) and I've getting into embedding musical samples, which is acceptable provided that they are less than 30 seconds and attributed. The opportunity to illustrate the story of Music of the African diaspora, with the help of multiple short musical samples, is really exciting. I'd love to be able to use music samples from this video clip of rhumba parties in Havana - take a look! And this clip from Havana is just beautiful, the idea of having an article that covers the music of these clips alongside the music of Jamaica and then looks at what's happening to music in the UK here could be great.

I've created this sandbox page, Wikipedia:WikiProject African diaspora/Music of the African diaspora text dump, to dump resource material from other pages, from which the new article can be moulded from. Hi, I noticed that Pan-Africanism wasn't looking too good, so I rewrote some things, added a little bit, and got rid of the plagiarism. Even so, though, there's a lot of stuff I'm not sure about or don't know how to address. I mention most of it on the talk page: Talk:Pan-Africanism#Some_revisions.2C_and_several_questions; if there's anyone here who knows more about it and isn't too busy, I'd appreciate your expertise. I am not to keen on this page as I feel it tends to essentialise a concept which arose from the Committee for the Relief of the Black Poor (CRBP). Any comments on this would be useful. the CRBP page of course needsa lot more work.Harrypotter 21:58, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
