Zoe (All My Children)

Zoe (born Fredrick "Freddie" Luper) is a fictional character on ABC's daytime drama All My Children. She has been played by Jeffrey Carlson beginning in August 2006 and then returning from November 29, 2006 onward.
Zoe was introduced in August 2006 as a male international rock star, who was known as Zarf at the time. The character was originally a cameo role. Babe Carey and Josh Madden approached Zarf about using some of his music in an ad campaign for Fusion and were successful in persuading him to sign an agreement. Zarf returned to the show November 29, 2006 and caused a stir by mediating in the nude at Fusion to connect with the creative energies of the company. Zarf met and fell instantly in love with Bianca Montgomery who is a lesbian. Strong feelings for Bianca gave Zarf the courage to come out as transgender lesbian named Zoe on New Year's Eve.
Zoe was subsequently accused of murder and attempted murder of Dani, Simone and Erin. At the Chandler Mansion, where she was accused of being the Satin Slayer, she revealed to Pine Valley that she was transgender but was not believed by anyone except Babe. Subsequently, other characters have come to accept Zoe as a woman but some characters remain skeptical of her and of the transgender experience. Zoe was later attacked by the Satin Slayer and survived. She was cleared of suspicion when the true killer was revealed to be Alexander Cambias, Sr.
Zoe has begun the process of transitioning from male to female. As part of the transition process, she has joined a transgender support group and met with an endocrinologist.
