On my talk page, Brian0918 suggested http://quendor.robinlionheart.com/chronology (or an older version here) as a source for more info.
That timeline is pretty thorough, I agree. I'll probably have to contact the site owner to get permission, though.
For now, I've started off with using the feelies I have from the various games I own. In particular, Zork: Grand Inquisitor came with an actual timeline. Here I think it's doubly important to take care against copyvio, because they've already put the data into a timeline format. I think paraphrasing will suffice for this. Any thoughts?

If you check out that site, he gets all of his info from the games as well, and in several cases he quotes the original game text, so I don't think you have to ask him for permission since he is just doing the same thing you are. One thing you can do is find an entry in his list that you want to put in this list, and search for that year in google to try and find the original source and paraphrase that. --Brian0918 11:41, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Formatting
I've noticed that of the various fictional timelines, this one is the only one to use a table for formatting the data. The others use a bulletted list.
The list approach is a little easier to work with from a source-editing perspective, and it's a format more like the "real" timelines throughout Wikipedia.
Are there any preferences?

Is there a way to differentiate the topic of events in the timeline? On the Chronology of Quendor site I gave you, he colors things differently depending on if they relate to: History & Politics, Arts & Architecture, Literature, Legends, Magic & Technology, Business, Daily Life. Any idea on how this could be done for this timeline? As it is, the timeline looks pretty cluttered, but I don't want to take anything out. If there was some way to visually differentiate the more important events from the less important ones... that would be nice. Any suggestions? --Brian0918 02:03, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- You make a good point. The list isn't even close to what the Chronology of Quendor has, and it's already got quite a bit of scrolling (btw, perhaps an external link to CoQ is in order?). I don't know if Wikipedia supports colors like that, though, for the sake of browser-neutrality/accessibility.
- The style manual discourages relying on HTML to do "fancy" stuff, so that kind of limits our options.
- In The Real World, this would probably be handled by splitting into multiple pages (e.g., 2004, 2004 in literature, 2004 in film, etc.). It feels a tad presumptuous to do the same for a "mere" game, though.
- A pox on Infocom and Activision for creating such a rich, detailed world!
