[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:00317581 lg.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:00317581 lg.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:04, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:5f09-d.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:5f09-d.gif. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 01:31, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:4f02.jpg)
![]() |
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:4f02.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Yamla 01:31, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image problems
Your changes to Image:BusterKeaton.jpg were reverted as nonsense. Your changes to Buster Keaton were reverted because the image you added was missing a mandatory detailed fair-use rationale. --Yamla 01:28, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Additionally, please refrain from uploading any more images until you have fixed the problems with the images you have already uploaded. All copyrighted images must have a source, the copyright holder identified, an accurate license, and a detailed fair-use rationale for each use of the image. --Yamla 01:31, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Buster Keaton Image
You said: "What was the problem with the rationale that I added, it was detailed, it gave proper reasons why the image should be able to be used. It is clearly used to promote the navigator, he's wearing the same navy uniform that he wears in the film. I'm reverting your changes until you give me a good reason why it's wrong."
- Your fair-use rationale did nothing of the sort. The image isn't even being used in an article about the film. It looked like you just copied the fair-use rationale from an unrelated image. --Yamla 01:34, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Additionally, are you the same person as User:Registered user 92? --Yamla 01:36, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- You are clearly the same user. That user was blocked for a week for long-term image copyright problems and I see you have simply continued this behaviour under this account name. This account has therefore been blocked for a week. If you plan on adding the necessary information to all of the images you have uploaded so far, please state so using {{unblock|Reason goes here}} and I will unblock you. Alternatively, you can wait out the block but please note, any further image copyright problems will result in future blocks. --Yamla 01:44, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- The one-week block did not expire until today and you've been editing with this new account since 2006-07-29. In any case, you were blocked because of your continued image copyright and fair-use problems, not for creating a sockpuppet to get around the other block. --Yamla 01:51, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
-
[edit] Unblock
You stated: "I have been blocked for something that I was already blocked for. I have also attempted to use a sufficient fair-use rationale, but that was also deemed unfit. I am very interested in assuring that the images I have uploaded stay uploaded, so with the assistance of Yamla, I will attempt to find the correct one." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75pickup (talk • contribs).
- I will unblock you. It'll take about two minutes to "take". Please refrain from uploading any more images until you have fixed the ones you have already uploaded. Also, note that the fair-use rationale must be specific to each image and each use of that image. You cannot, for example, state that it is fair-use to use an image of Brian Wilson in an article about a movie when you are talking about an image of Buster Keaton being used in an article about him. --Yamla 01:53, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- Okay, you should be unblocked now. --Yamla 01:54, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- Thank you, know what would be a sufficient rationale? 75pickup
-
-
- For the Buster Keaton image, Image:BusterKeaton.jpg, the license requires that you establish the image came from a press kit (or similar). It is not at all clear that this is the case, in which case the license would be incorrect. But once you've established that, you then would point out that there are no free images available as far as you know (if there are, we can't use a copyrighted image) and as the subject is dead (I think), none are likely to be forthcoming. Then note that you are using the image in the article on Buster Keaton solely to depict what he looked like. The license text itself has some links which provide additional information. Quite frankly, copyrighted images are a pain in the behind for the uploader to justify. --Yamla 03:18, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
-
[edit] Cream Image
You said: "I saw that you removed it from the Cream page. What should I write in the rationale that will make it available for use?"
- Please see my previous comments and the license text to understand fair-use rationales. --Yamla 14:42, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] New Images
You may notice that I've uploaded new image of John Lennon. Now before you take this out on me, the photos were already uploaded on wikipedia under a different file name, I just uploaded larger versions. I find it easier to just create a new file instead of overwrite an old one. So here is the original photo, if you have any trouble with them, contact the original uploader, not me. 75pickup (talk • contribs) frame|right
It is nevertheless your responsibility to ensure the necessary information is there which you once again failed to do for several images. I am not blocking you this time but please be much more careful in the future. --Yamla 17:35, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Dennypic.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Dennypic.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 17:35, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Picture Image:FrankZappa3.jpg for Frank Zappa article?
Please discuss major changes, such as replacing an article's main picture, at the article's talk page. In the case of Frank Zappa, there is indeed a particular section for discussing the main picture. Moreover, the picture you have inserted is obviously copyrighted, and from my experience we cannot claim fair use of it. I have for now reverted your change. Please go to Talk:Frank Zappa and discuss with other editors whether the picture is appropriate or not. --HJ 06:15, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Guitarist infobox
Nice little add to the box. Gives us a place to stick photo source details which in turn...give us more options for pics. An overdue change. Do you know how to "bot" the caption line into the existing infoboxes? I've never done any bot editing so I thought I'd ask. Cheers! Anger22 02:44, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- LOL. I see edit summaries all the time that say "removed category using AWB" or "corrected spelling using AWB"... AWB being "the bot". The "AWB" is wiki-linked to a page that explains it's usage. It's been a while(long while) since I've read it. Just thought you mat have had some experience with it. It may be quite a functional tool to use in adding your new caption line into the existing infoboxes...rather than do them all manually. Nice new pic on the Jeff Beck article BTW. Take care! Anger22 21:24, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- I stumbled upon the link...Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser. It explains it's usage/requirements/permissions etc. It's a tool that can do repetative tasks quite easily....I guess. I was...eventually...going to look into using it to update the guitarist templates with the 'class' and 'attention' bits.(but just haven't found the time) It could be used to update the infobox with your additions...if you feel brave enough to give it a go. For now I just copy/paste it into guitarist pages that I pic at random as they pop up in my VandalProof watchlist. Mo matter what process is used...eventually they'll all get done. Cheers! How is the newer image any better than the older one? Yes the image is better quality, but it does not show his face. Neither are fair-use images so why did you change it?--Mattarata 17:31, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

You seem to be a copyright expert, so I'll ask you my question. Can a confirmed promotional photograph be altered and still used under the Promophoto liscence. 75pickup (talk • contribs) 16:11, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- My guess would be no, but I'm not completly sure. As of "confirmed promotional photograph", please note that most "promotional" images can't be used in Wikipedia. If the image is non-free, it should be unrepeatable. For instance, a promotional image of an unreleased product (like a upcoming car model) is probably ok, but (unfree) promotional photos of celebrities or some (accessible) object or building are repeatable, and a until a free alternative is produces NO photo should be used in it's place. --Abu Badali 23:51, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:TinaFey.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:TinaFey.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Editors have settled on British conventions for dates and spelling in The Beatles and related articles -- it makes sense, given that they were a British group after all. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:S114 3.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:S114 3.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

[edit] Image:01cat.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:01cat.jpg.
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 48 hours after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 19:00, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Johnny08.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Johnny08.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Red Hot Chili Peppers
Hey, 75, just wanted to drop by and thank you a bunch for all the input you've given me in re-writing and editing the RHCP page. Today, I nominated the article for GA consideration. Seeing as the page has developed gradually from mediocre, to becoming a concise article, I believe it will be readily accepted. Thanks again for just being a great editor, NSR77 02:22, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries
The new infobox you added to Stephen Stills looks pretty good. But it really helps to have something useful in the edit summaries, since they show up in both watchlists and edit histories. Best, Cgingold 13:07, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Alternative music and sources
As part of the Alternative music WikiProject, we're gathering a list of sources on this page. Could you take a look and perhaps add any written references you have access to? Thanks! CloudNine 10:12, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Cliff_Burton.jpg
I noticed you added a source for this image, but it is clearly a different copy. I hate to see the picture go as much as you, but the image is troublesome. You might want to update the image by uploading the copy from the source that you specified. --Edokter (Talk) 12:57, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
