WikiProject SpongeBob SquarePants November 2006 Newsletter
About
|
The WikiProject SpongeBob SquarePants newsletter is a monthly newsletter posted on the first of the month. AMK152 writes and publish it. If you have any questions or comments please post them here or on AMK152's talk page. In addition, the project needs at least one more newsletter writer. If you are interested, please see the WikiProject's talkpage. |
Interviews
|
Starting in December 2006, the Project will interview its members. The interviews will be published in the newsletter each month, and hopefully this can improve the SpongeBob SquarePants articles. See the talk page for more details. |
Concerns and questions
|
Please leave a message with AMK152 if you have questions concerning the project. You may also post at the WikiProject's talkpage and someone will answer. |
Featured articles
|
We are trying to make several articles good or featured articles. We would like your help reaching featured article status. We are currently working on SpongeBob SquarePants, Krusty Krab, and Bikini Bottom. Please help us improve these articles, based on the peer reviews and your knowledge of Wikipedia featured articles. |
|
Project objectives
|
-
- Infoboxes need to be complete on each episode article. (See Template:SpongeBob episode)
- A screenshot of each title card for each episode needs to be complete on each episode article to improve it.
- Please try to help incorperate all trivia into the rest of the articles.
- Try to incorperate non notable quotes to Wikiquote
-
- Games: The SpongeBob game articles need to be expanded, especially the stubs. See here: Template:SpongeBob Games.
- SpongeBob Books - On the List of SpongeBob SquarePants Media, books needed to be listed and a description of the book.
- Featured and Good Articles - If you believe it's good enough, feel free to nominate it. Some of these articles are just great but aren't getting nominated. Adding content to let it reach the status is just as important.

VC classroom update
Hi AMK. As part of my coaching assignment, I've been monitoring your edits. I'm impressed with the sheer volume of work you've been doing. I'm also glad to see you pull away from Sponge Bob Squarepants from time to time (specialization is good, but some diversification is good too). You expressed interest in preparing yourself for adminship, and one of the things that come up in RfAs is whether or not the editor needs the admin tools. Based on your editing activities, it is clear that you do not need them at this time. You get along perfectly fine without them. There isn't anything in your editing routine that really requires the mop. There's nothing wrong with this. It's just that the mop is generally handed to those who are immersed in Wikipedia's administrative chores, like closing AfDs, monitoring recent changes and fighting vandalism, departmental chores like WP:POTD, helping out at peer review, requests for feedback, third opinion, etc.
Admin rights can be particularly helpful for working in certain areas of Wikipedia:
But if you aren't interested in working in these areas, then the admin tools may not be of any use to you. There are many janitorial-like chores on Wikipedia which do not require admin tools, and these are listed in the editorial department section of the Wikipedia:Department directory. Performance in those areas are used as a guide to project how well one will perform as an admin. But before you go for adminship, you will need to know what you want to do with the admin tools.
So, if you are still interested, perhaps you should shift your efforts. Begin exploring and working on Wikipedia's "blue pages". Helping out on Wikipedia's backlogs is also greatly needed. Take a look at the Community portal and the Wikipedia Department Directory, and let me know what areas interest you the most.

Template:DecadesAndYears
This template: Template:DecadesAndYears isn't lineing up here: 2nd century, and other century pages.
Problem with spacing that i cannot fix.
- That template looks perfect. What's wrong with it ? ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 23:43, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- I changed the width to auto, [1], which may work. We'll see when the template propagates. It may also be good to force each column to be a bit wider and/or make the rows have less height, so that the whole template is at least as wide as it is high, for style reasons. —Centrx→talk • 23:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ummm... only one side is stretched out (the right) in firefox. ---J.S (T/C) 01:42, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- I figured out how to accomplish what you're looking for, and I'll explain it in a minute, but first let me point out that the width may have been deliberately established that way for aesthetic reasons or for reasons having to do with display on different browsers. In other words, making it full screen might make cause problems for other viewers. Then again, maybe someone just thought it looked nicer this way and changing it won't have any negative effect. Who knows? Okay, here's how you change it. Go to Template:DecadesAndYears and click "edit this page." In the top line is a section that says "width: 71%" -- if you change that to 100% then the template will expand to full-screen width. That's all there is to it. SWAdair | Talk 04:52, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, sorry I rather confused the issue by fiddling with the template. Unfortunately I don't know if it is really fixable. The frame does not directly connect with the inner DecadeYears templates. While it looks ok on 17th century, 18th century etc. if you adjust the browser text size the text slides out the side of the template. There are three options as I see it: a separate template for earlier then 10th century, put "border:0px solid" in the top of the current template to hide the border and make it look tidier, or add another parameter to the template which propagates through to DecadeYears to add spaces to the cells. This is the most complicated but you can see the general effect with {{DecadesAndYears||1| 2}} (thats with two nbsp). I personally think the easiest is removing the border although it will not be properly centred. Although I may be missing an easy solution, your fixes to {{Centuries}} were pretty good. meltBanana 19:20, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for all the help. Right now it appears just as what I was trying to get it to look like. I don't know if its the same for other browsers. -AMK152 22:39, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

User edit number boxes
Regarding your recent edits, please refer to the SI/ISO 31-0 notation style as previously discused here. Regards, Asteriontalk 02:40, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed - it would have been nice to see some discussion on this before all of the boxes were changed. --Ckatzchatspy 11:10, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
helpme
- I am having trouble making this template: [2]. I am making it for the Geological time scale, and I want it similar to Template:Yearbox I want to be able to hide some of the fields, when it is not an epoch page.
-
- Well, is this what you want?
When it's Eon age...
When it's Era age...

Geo time boxes
- Also, speaking as a geologist, I appreciate the effort but it would have been nice to have some discussion about the time-related info boxes. I'm not sure the general reader will immediately grasp that the items in the box reflect "time period preceding" and "time period following", and some are a bit confusing - e.g., in Cambrian, the period preceding is Ediacaran, but in the box it is not evident that it is not part of the Paleozoic - it looks just like "Cambrian" does as the period preceding in the Ordovician box. I guess I feel that the footers, together with the link to the entire geologic time scale, provide the needed info with less potential for confusion. Cheers Geologyguy 17:03, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- I find your geo time boxes less than fully functional at this time. I do not believe that they should be promulgated until they are (1) better and (2) there is discussion of their function. I agree with Geologyguy that the footers currently supply the information that you are trying to convey. I do not think that it is appropriate in dealing with a geological period to put the previous era and previous eon in an info box. What is important is what era a period is in, and what the period's subdivisions may be. Bejnar 20:47, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed, the current footers and info boxes are clear and sufficient - the new time boxes were redundant and likely to be confusing. Vsmith 03:04, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Changes to the user boxes - edit counts
FYI, I have restored the spaces in the edit count user boxes (as opposed to your recent change to commas). There is a discussion at Template talk:User 3 500e that indicates a preference for spaces. Please feel free to join in the discussion if you wish. Thanks. --Ckatzchatspy 06:51, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
