[edit] Allegations of molestation
I've removed the following paragraph from the main article, since it makes serious unsupported allegations against Levine. If this story is to be placed in the article, it must be backed up by verifiable references.
- material removed as per WP:RS

Someone keeps trying to add the molestation allegations to the main article. Wikipedia cannot put this kind of stuff in an article unless it is backed up by references. See WP:Verifiability.

- Maazel's comments and criticism of Levine may be verified by any current member of the National Symphony Orchestra or New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
This does not meet Wikipedia's criterion for verifiability. References must be to reliable, published sources. Maazel's alleged remarks are not a published source, since they were allegedly made in private to a select group of musicians. Members of orchestras likewise are not published sources. See Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Note especially on that page:
- We may not use primary sources whose information has not been made available by a credible publication.

I've reported the IP 168.105.175.xx at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.

If Numerous music critics and musicians have publicly criticized Levine, The Metropolitan Opera and the New York Times for covering up the incident, then this should be backed up by a direct link to their criticism. This "story" has all the indications of being a totally fabricated rumor based on petty professional jealousy. I'm going to report user 128.171.138.74 for IP blocking if he/she adds undocumented allegations of molestation again.

I'm reporting 128.171.138.XXX for IP blocking at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. 128.171.138.XXX, whoever you are, you have been warned several times that a newsgroup posting (which is all that your link [1] points to) is not sufficient basis for making such grave allegations against a public figure. Even if it were, the link does not back up the allegations you make: the link just reports "rumors" about Levine while your edit unequivocally claims that he has engaged in molestation. It is noteworthy that Greg Sandow, who is alleged to be the source of these allegations, hasn't made them on his own homepage at http://www.gregsandow.com

- In compliance with WP:LIBEL, I have removed all the libelous edits from the page history. Angr (talk • contribs) 14:55, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
The anonymous vandal has been at his dirty work again, this time using a link to a real New York Times story about Levine for cover. However, the story says nothing about Levine except that he is "intensely private". Grover cleveland 01:10, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- I have once again deleted the references from the history, and I've semiprotected the pages so anons and new users can't edit it. Angr (talk • contribs) 05:43, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
I have removed this yet AGAIN; look at the contributions for 128.171.138.87 (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log). This kind of thing, especially after the Siegenthaler incident, is completely unacceptable. Vague rumors and allegations have no place here. Antandrus (talk) 01:09, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
The anonymous vandal has added the Levine molestation allegations to Boston Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and Lorin Maazel pages (possibly others that I didn't see). I'm going to request that the IP be banned. Grover cleveland 15:50, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- It will have to be a range block, since it's not always exactly the same IP. I'd do it myself, but I don't know how to block a whole range of IPs. Angr (talk • contribs) 16:00, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Removed a similar notation from the Fantasia 2000 page. 24.91.212.56 01:32, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Josef Lhevinne
Levine could not have studied in 1957 with Josef Lhevinne. By then he was dead!
