Biography
Matthew Kiichi Heafy born January 26, 1986 in Iwakuni, Japan, is the vocalist and guitarist for the band Trivium. At the age of 21, Matt has had considerable success for a young artist. Matt's father, Brian Heafy works as a co-manager for the band alongside Justin Arcangel. Matt gets his Japanese heritage from his mother's side.[citation needed]
Trivium
He joined Trivium when the band members witnessed him covering "Self Esteem" (originally by The Offspring) at a talent show at Teague Middle School in Altamonte Springs, Florida. He was discovered at the age of fourteen. He was also the vocalist and guitarist for the band Capharnaum.
The previous vocalist of Trivium quit the band shortly after Matt's audition with the band and Matt assumed responsibility for vocals. His debut with Trivium included his compositions of Fugue, Demon, Requiem, and Sworn. He has also composed the songs and lyrics for their Ember to Inferno album and most of the Ascendancy album. Each band member has had an equal involvement in the writing of the album The Crusade.
Trivium has garnered a large following in North America and the UK, they are now trying to achieve the same success in the rest of Europe.
Trivium, who toured around europe supporting Iron Maiden in 2006, are also going to tour in april supported by Annihilator.
Roadrunner United
In 2005, Roadrunner Records released Roadrunner United: The All-Star Sessions to celebrate its 25th birthday. Four "team captains" were chosen: Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Robert Flynn (Machine Head), and Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory) as well as Matt Heafy. Heafy also wrote the lyrics and sang lead the vocals to 'The End', captained by Dino Cazares.
Trivia
